See the work of a revered Colombian artist and admire the collection of paintings by celebrated international masters.

Visit the Botero Museum to see a collection of works by renowned Colombian artist Fernando Botero. Spot paintings by revered international artists such as Salvador Dalí and Pablo Picasso. The museum opened in 2000 when Botero donated a collection of more than 200 paintings and sculptures, including his own works and original pieces from his private collection of works by world-famous artists.

Visit the west wing of the museum to find a collection of 123 works by Fernando Botero, including paintings, drawings and sculptures. Much of the collection dates from the end of the 20th century, and many pieces represent Botero’s preference for depicting voluptuous figures. Admire his notable paintings, including the colourful Pareja Bailando and Monalisa, a caricature of Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa.

Admire Botero’s collection of pencil drawings, including portraits of French artists Paul Cézanne and Gustave Courbet. Check out the sculptures section to see more of Botero’s signature rounded figures, including Hombre a Caballo and El Sueño.

Go to the museum’s east wing to discover a collection of 85 works of international art. Among the numerous artists represented are Francis Bacon, Joan Miró, Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir. See popular pieces including Salvador Dalí’s sculpture Busto Retrospectivo de Mujer (Retrospective Bust of a Woman) and Pablo Picasso’s Hombre Sentado con Pipa (Seated Man with Pipe). The collection proceeds in chronological order, from 19th-century French impressionism to 20th-century contemporary art.

Located in the historic La Candelaria district, the Botero Museum is a short walk from Plaza de Bolívar in downtown Bogotá’s. It is part of La Manzana Cultural (Cultural Square). The nearest subway station is a 10-minute walk from the museum’s entrance. Metered parking is available nearby at the Luis Angel Arango Library.

The museum is open every day except Tuesdays, and admission is free. Visit the museum’s official website for complete opening hours and the guided tour schedule. For a nominal fee, you can rent an audio guide, which provides information on the museum’s collection and artists.
