Bergen op Zoom, also known as ‘Funfair City’, is located on the west side of the province of Northern Brabant, close to Zeeland. The cosy city centre, that was once voted best city centre in the Netherlands, is stuffed with noteworthy national monuments. In addition to centuries-old buildings you will find delightful nature reserves, perfect for hiking, biking, picnicking and getting up close and personal with wildlife.
The City Centre Hotels

The most popular has to be the Markiezenhof: a late gothic palace complete with perfectly maintained dungeon – excellent for a spooky day out.
The Prisoners Gateway, built in the 14th Century, is the oldest monument in the city. It’s the only remaining original gate to the city and functioned as a prison up until 1931.
Beside the centuries-old buildings you will find the Parade and Vierkantje, which together from the popular shopping area WinkelAcht. Perfect for a little retail therapy.
Not to far to the east of the city you will find the beautiful nature reserve of Zoomland, and just south of that, Lievensburg. Remember your walking boots and enjoy their large heaths, deciduous and coniferous woodland and drifting dunes.
