We loved this hotel! Super comfortable, great breakfast, friendly staff. The ONLY downside was the 7:00 a.m. church bell right next door.
Beautiful setting, air conditioning not sufficient, otherwise perfect
Location is good and all employees were very friendly and accommodating. A fitness center, washcloths, and fan in room were not offered (room was very warm).
Great location in the heart of the old city, very comfortable beds, even for someone with a bad back. Nicely appointed.
Location was great, room was bright and welcoming and the staff were excellent. I was a little frustrated I couldn't get parked at the hotel as it was raining but I was directed to a nearby parking garage and give an umbrella for the walk back.
Welcoming staff, clean room, location was excellent. Would highly recommend.
Large room, fabulous locations, friendly snd helpful staff
Comfortable bed, small bathroom, room is adequate but not large. The breakfast buffet was outstanding. Staff went out of their way to make you happy. Conveniently located not far from city centre.
Service from front desk was great! Room is very clean and beautiful. Also, I was able to go to the club next door, Club Rouge. I had a great stay!
If you’re taking a trip to Basel, one of the must-see attractions is the splendid Basel Town Hall. Situated in the Marktplatz (Market Square) at the heart of Basel’s beautiful Old Town – one of the most well-preserved medieval townscapes in Europe – the Town Hall is within easy reach of a wide range of accommodation in Basel’s city centre. You can get to the Marktplatz either on foot through the fascinating winding streets and alleyways, on one of the trams which stop right in the square or by bus to the nearby Marktgasse Street.
Finding a hotel near Basel Town Hall to suit your needs should be simple, as there’s a great range to choose from in Basel, including luxury hotels, recognised chains, small B&Bs and cheap hostels. If you’re travelling during peak season or around the famous festival of Fasnacht in winter, it could be good to snap up a room well in advance as the Old Town is a prime location for staying close to all of Basel’s top attractions.
Basel Town Hall is hard to miss. With a highly decorated red façade and distinctive tower which almost seem to glow in the Swiss sunshine, it proudly dominates the surroundings of the Market Square. So if you’re just on a flying visit to Basel, take the opportunity to sip a coffee in one of the pavement cafes while taking in the view of this spectacular building.
If you’ve got a bit longer, why not explore inside too? The oldest parts of the Town Hall were constructed in the 14th Century, and replaced an even older seat of government which was destroyed when a great earthquake hit Basel. Some of the most beautiful features are the trompe l’oeil paintings added in the early 1600s and the council chamber itself, which is still used for local government meetings.
No matter where you’re staying in Basel, a trip to see Basel Town Hall is a must – and choosing a hotel nearby will put you close to all the city’s top attractions.
