Location is good and all employees were very friendly and accommodating. A fitness center, washcloths, and fan in room were not offered (room was very warm).
Comfortable bed, small bathroom, room is adequate but not large. The breakfast buffet was outstanding. Staff went out of their way to make you happy. Conveniently located not far from city centre.
Location was great, room was bright and welcoming and the staff were excellent. I was a little frustrated I couldn't get parked at the hotel as it was raining but I was directed to a nearby parking garage and give an umbrella for the walk back.
Great location in the heart of the old city, very comfortable beds, even for someone with a bad back. Nicely appointed.

Basel is known as Switzerland’s capital of culture. That reputation is more than justified – the city is packed with theatre, music and festivals, and it also has more museums than any other city in the country. They cover every subject imaginable, but if you’re keen to learn more about the city itself, look for a hotel near the Basel Historical Museum, a major Swiss institution that has been active since 1894.
On maps or in guide books, you may see the museum listed as HMB or the Historisches Museum Basel. It has four sites, but the main part of the museum’s collection is housed in the Barfüsserkirche (which literally translates as barefoot church), an old church on a square lined with shops and cafes. It’s located in the centre of Basel, less than five minutes’ walk from the cathedral. Thanks to the central location, hotels near the Basel Historical Museum tend to be at the more expensive end of the scale, but Basel’s fantastic public transport system means that if you find a bargain hotel or apartment a little further out, you’ll still be able to get to the museum with ease. If you’re coming to the Basel Historical Museum by public transport, head for the Barfüsserplatz tram stop.
Themed around topics such as craft traditions, everyday culture and ecclesiastical treasures, the artworks and objects on display at the Basel Historical Museum offer a window onto Basel’s identity as a city at the meeting point between the three cultures of Switzerland, France and Germany. There are pieces here representing over 1,000 years of history, with highlights including the Basel Cathedral treasury, an exhibition of fascinating miniature cabinets of curiosity, beautiful medieval tapestries and archaeological finds from across the city.
On the other side of the Barfüsserplatz from the main museum, you’ll find the Basel Historical Museum’s wonderful music displays. They’re housed in the Lohnhof, a former monastery complex. Explore over 650 musical instruments dating back over five centuries and listen to what they sound like via multi-media guides.
