Good location, pool and very good value continental breakfast. There was milk and bottled water in the fridge when we arrived. Very friendly and informative manager. The property was a little tired and in need of decoration reflecting the town which is struggling economically.

This motel was easy to find, extremely clean and well presented and our room was spacious. A light breakfast was provided. There was a pleasant eatery next door for the evening. Really good value for money.

Great place, friendly staff. Only stayed one night so didn't get to check out all the facilities, but thoroughly enjoyed the room and there was very fast wifi.

We stayed here for a night to stop off on the way up coast. It was perfect for what we wanted, just a place to sleep for the night before heading off in the morning. The room was clean and perfect for the night. It had free parking for guests and right next to the airport for those travelling by plane. The staff were really friendly and helpful.

We had a average short stop here. It was an easy check in, and the hotel was helpful in leaving us a key as we arrived after reception had closed.
The room was great, just want we needed. It was well equipped and we parked right outside our room. Excellent.

We booked a room for one night on our week long road trip from Brisbane to Airlie Beach. The room was exactly what we expected and ideal for one night. The free breakfast was an added bonus. The highlight of our stay was our dinner at Fusion 128, which was in the centre of Mackay but easily accessed by car.

The best area to stay in Barcoo is Blackall, which serves as a central hub for exploring the wider region.
Blackall offers a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere with a range of facilities. The main street, Shamrock Street, features the local shops, cafes, and hotels, making it easy to access everything you need. You'll find a strong sense of local community here, providing a genuine Outback experience.
Couples looking for a peaceful escape will find Blackall particularly appealing. It's an excellent base for exploring the nearby natural attractions, such as the Blackall Woolscour, where you can learn about the region's sheep shearing history, or the tranquil banks of the Barcoo River, superb for a quiet afternoon.
For families, Blackall provides a convenient and friendly base. The town has a well-maintained public swimming pool, and the Barcoo Discovery Centre offers engaging exhibits about the local history and environment, keeping younger travellers entertained.
When is the best time to go to Barcoo?
The best time to visit Barcoo is during the dry season, which runs from April to October, offering pleasant weather for exploring.
During these months, you'll experience mild temperatures and minimal rainfall, making it ideal for outdoor activities and comfortable travel. The skies are generally clear, and the air is less humid, which is great for enjoying the region's natural beauty and attractions.
For those planning to explore the vast outback landscapes or visit the local national parks, the dry season ensures better road conditions and more comfortable hiking or touring experiences. It's also when many local events and festivals are held, providing a richer cultural experience.
If your trip involves extensive driving or camping, avoiding the wet season (November to March) is advisable, as heavy rains can lead to road closures and make some areas inaccessible.
