Spring, summer, fall, and winter—Balderschwang in the Allgäu region, near the Austrian border, is always worth a visit: In winter, it’s a snow-covered haven and an insider’s tip for cross-country skiing enthusiasts, winter sports fans, and families. Its snowy winters have even earned Balderschwang the nickname “Bavarian Siberia.”

In summer and fall, head into the mountains for biking, hiking, or mountaineering—for example, in the Nagelfluhkette Nature Park. Thanks to its high elevation, it’s usually completely fog-free.
