An exciting and varied programme is on offer at Auckland’s premier venue that has two theatres, several function rooms and foyers decorated with local artwork.

Experience a memorable night out or attend a range of special events at the Aotea Centre. This performing arts and convention complex is located in the heart of the city. Strolling across Aotea Square into the modern and light-filled foyer, you can see why this versatile space is a favoured spot for touring events and local productions. From ballet to boxing, the Aotea Centre hosts a wide range of events and concerts.

Despite being designed in 1974, by local architect Ewen Wainscott, building did not commence for the Aotea Centre until the late 1980s. From the day of its opening in 1990 to today, the centre has maintained a contemporary atmosphere. Modern upgrades throughout the years have ensured the venue’s prominence in the city.

Pick from a range of special events to attend at the Aotea Centre’s main stages, the ASB Theatre and the Herald Theatre. You might see a performance by NZ Opera or the Royal New Zealand Ballet, both of which call the ASB Theatre home. Local theatre productions, circus performances and fresh talent from the New Zealand International Comedy Festival grace the stage of the more intimate Herald Theatre. Check the programme to see if there’s an exhibition, conference or seminar that interests you.

Whichever event you choose, you’ll be treated to a special experience at the venue. Walk through the Waharoagateway topped by sculptures of Maori deities and symbols. Enter the grand reception area and take a moment to admire the work of well-known New Zealand artists. Check out the mural, tapestry and installation artworks that are dotted throughout the Aotea Centre.

Have lunch or a coffee before a matinee show at the Aotea Centre’s café or relax with a pre-show drink and a snack at the bar. Purchase show tickets in person or by phoning the box office, or organise your booking online.

The venue is located on Aotea Square in the heart of Auckland’s entertainment district. Parking is available in the facility below Aotea Square. Buses stop on the surrounding streets.
