One of the most famous landmarks in the city is the Anna Livia Millennium Fountain. A powerful symbol of Dublin, the fountain and sculpture are a must-see during your trip to the Irish capital.

The Anna Livia Millennium Fountain

Originally commissioned by businessman Michael Smurfit as a tribute to his father, the Anna Livia Millennium Fountain was designed by sculptor Éamonn O'Doherty and installed as part of the Dublin Millennium Celebrations in 1988.

The reclining figure at the centre of the fountain is a personification of the nearby river Liffey. Named after Anna Livia, the character from James Joyce’s Finnegans Wake, which also embodies the river, the sculpture was originally placed in O’Connell Street, moving to its current location in Croppies Memorial Park in 2011.

A popular landmark for locals and visitors alike, the sculpture is located next to the Liffey, in the heart of Dublin.
