Sheraton Athlone Hotel

Sheraton Athlone Hotel

10/10 Excellent
"Enjoyed our 3 day stay here. We had an issue with the shower drain backing up and reported it. A maintenance person was sent and, although the drain worked better, it was still not draining as it should. We reported it once more and they mentioned they had no service people on that day, but the service manager, Paval, showed up (in a suit), took his suit jacket off and started working on it. He fixed it. We were very pleased with the service we received."

Kinnitty Castle Hotel

10/10 Excellent
"We absolutely loved our stay in this beautiful castle hotel. The rooms were beautiful and clean and the staff was so kind and welcoming. Breakfast was also extremely nice with a hot option (like pancakes/sausage) included. Only complaint is that there needs to be some pest control inside, as there were spiders in every corner of the ceiling as well as one running around by my toilet. The grounds were incredible and we wished we had more time to stay and hike around them as others seemed to know to plan. We hope to be back!"

"Rooms were slightly out dated with carpet stains and grout stains in the shower. It didnt bother us much though, bed was comfy and included a fan in the room - we enjoyed our stay. I will say the hotel public washrooms were not cleaned. Every toilet in the womens room was filthy, so we waited until our room was ready to use the bathroom. Staff were apologetic and helpful. Nice people and beautiful lobby."

The Killeshin Hotel

The Killeshin Hotel

8/10 Good
"The hotel is nice with two places to eat, an outdoor seating area, and a couple of floors with rooms. I had a room above the main entrance and while it was comfy, there was absolutely no noise prevention with either the window or the door. I could hear everything. There's a tag that offers ear plugs, but I'd rather see them invest in better sound proofing. The bed was firm, which I enjoyed. It's close to some food options as well in the area. I can't speak to the food options in the hotel as I didnt eat there. Overall comfy, but the noise was noticeable. Staff is very friendly."

Breathe in the quality when you smell the pampering body products in your en suite bathroom. Tullamore surely has some of the finest in Irish charm and hospitality.

There are lots of reasons why a holiday in Tullamore will be memorable, and staying at a four star hotel is certain to make it special. This picturesque market town has some delightful buildings and the wonderful countryside and nature of the midlands of the Republic of Ireland are on your doorstep, as well as the distillers of Tullamore Dew, a fine Irish whiskey.

Tullamore Vistas and Heritage

Tullamore is County Offaly’s county town and is the official gateway to the Republic of Ireland’s midlands region, which attracts visitors each year who are interested in seeing the Emerald Isle’s bogs, peatland and forests. Staying in Tullamore means that the Slieve Bloom and the Arden Hills are close by, so you’ll not have far to go to explore them on foot, bicycle or car.

The town was built as part of the English plantations in the 16th Century, leading to the ousting of the O’Molloy clan from the region. Tullamore was notoriously the site of the world’s first aviation disaster in the 18th Century, when a hot air balloon burned down 130 homes. The town commemorates the disaster on its coat of arms, with a phoenix rising from the ashes. There are several pieces of history that every visitor to Tullamore should see. The first is the ruins of the Clonmacnoise monastery, built in the 6th Century, with a cathedral, castle and several churches. You’ll find another 6th century monastery at Durrow Abbey and Charleville Castle in Charleville Forest as well, but beware – it’s meant to be the most haunted castle in all Ireland.

In 1795, the Grand Canal was built, linking Dublin to Tullamore and the midlands, and the waterway prompted a major period of development for the town. The canal runs right through Tullamore and gives it a picture postcard feel, with Georgian houses alongside the riverbank.

Sporting Pursuits in Tullamore

The Grand Canal is a great spot for canoeists, anglers and rowers, and if one picturesque waterway isn’t enough for you, then follow the canal to the River Shannon which has large barges and boat cruises. Ramblers and hikers love Tullamore for the enchanting landscapes of the Slieve Bloom Mountains, which are among the oldest in Europe. You can also try mountain biking and horse riding on the trails through the Slieve Bloom glens. Being Ireland, there is naturally also a large selection of golf courses in the area.

Tullamore’s Best Restaurants

Tullamore has a great many top-notch restaurants with a variety of cuisines. From modern Irish to Italian, Thai and Indian food, everyone can find something for their palate in town.
