"A great surprise!"
To start - I am a REAL traveler, here in Athens for an academic conference and I thought I'd come slightly early to do tourist activities before the conference!
I could not have been happier at Athens La Strada. I thought long and hard about where I wanted to be and was scared off by reviews of other hotels in Athens and what to expect. The hotel is located right off a main shopping thoroughfare, but heading along a side street in the other direction, you find yourself quite quickly in an area that surrounds the Roman Agora. A few blocks down is the Flea Market area, and a few beyond that, the Ancient Agora. I was by myself, and I like to walk when I travel, but I got to the Acropolis, the Agoras, and even the National Archaeological Museum just fine. I felt safe the entire time, and I got there using the train from the airport, and hiking down the Ermou Street from the Parliament Square. Not hard AT ALL.
The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The room was Euro-swanky, and clean, clean, clean. Not much more than a bed and TV, but the bathroom was spacious and great rain showerhead with body sprays. For a single traveler (or even 2), no problem! I had no issue with noise (I was on the 2nd floor). The breakfast was great - eggs, potatoes, toast, breads, olives, cheese, etc. AND Nutella crepes. The view from the breakfast room was awesome, too! The Parthenon!
Don't hestitate to come here - I had stressed myself out as to whether I made the right choice - I did!
