“Remote Idyll in Speyside”
The Blue Waters Inn is in the North of Tobago, some 1.5 hours from the airport, so allow £30 for a taxi. It is on the beach in a private bay, with scuba and snorkelling facilities. A swim before breakfast is only 10 steps away. Sheltered by the island of Little Tobago (which you can visit), it has gentle waves, ideal for even the weakest swimmer. The beach is kept clean by hotel staff. The restaurant is good, which is just as well as the rest of Speyside is up and over a small headland - more particularly it gets dark quickly around 6:30pm. Two tips - take a lot of cash, as there are no ATMs nearby, and the local activities/trips (such as a boat trip to Little Tobago, or a visit round a Cocoa Farm) don't take credit card. If you hire a car, you need to include a trip to Scarborough, or round the island, as all the petrol stations are down south. The hotel staff can oganise any of the trips. Live Steel Band on Fridays.
“great stay”
CLEAN rooms, GREAT LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION, right on the beach. Included Breakfast was cooked to order and pretty good, but not spectacular. Friendly Dive outfitter onsite. Free sea kayaks - fun! SPEYSIDE town is much quieter than i had imagined, not much else to do. Great hiking the trails next to Blue Waters as well as onsite free tennis court (mediocre condition). All in all, it was a great stay...
“Great time”
We had a great time here, and would recommend it, but you have to be aware of a few things. Firstly, Speyside is the other end of the island from the airport and ferry; it takes about an hour by car or taxi, although it is a fabulous drive along the coast road. When you get there, the setting is perfect, literally on a perfect caribbean beach - not actually private, I don't think, but really no-one else there. What you won't find is star luxury. The rooms (we had a standard "king size") are comfortable. large room, air con, super king size bed, shower and toilet, and with balcony overlooking the sea. That's plenty, and certainly was enough for us, but there isn't any more, so if you are expecting 'Travelodge' standard features, TV, telephone, tea and coffee in the room kind of stuff, forget it. The rooms also need a general makeover. There is a satellte TV room downstairs, frankly a bit scruffy, with a computer with reasonable internet access. Food wise, the same. It is adequate, but as good as you'll probably get anywhere, and about the same price. That is to say, not cordon bleu, but just ...ok. That however is Caribbean food: neither exciting nor ambitious. So, what you pay for here is an amazing location on a Caribbean beach, clean and comfortable rooms, days spent relaxing and watching pelicans diving in the bay, sandpipers eating from your hand at breakfast on the terrace bar etc. We had a fabulous time. If you need 4* pampering, it's not here, so don't complain.
“very best inn, at east cost og Tobaco”
Very good local Inn, very close to beach
“Peaceful and Relaxing”
Stayed at Blue Waters Inn, Tobago. Positive points - nice and quiet; good scuba diving and snorkelling; weather was beautiful; rooms comfortable. Negative points - not too much choice of food - if you didn't eat at the hotel then there wasn't much else available in Speyside. Food at the hotel was adequate, but uninspiring.
