The first room they offered us was quite nice but there was a not very pleasant smell in the bathroom and there were no armchairs to sit while watching the TV. The second room was very much better with 2 armchairs .
This was a last minute decision for us to book a weekend away. We came across this cottage which looked lovely so went ahead and just booked.
Despite our travel taking approx 2-3 hours longer than planned due to heavy traffic, staff were not put out by our later than planned arrival. They are a very welcoming couple who are very helpful with their knowledge of the area which helped us when planning where to go, places to eat etc. We actually took their advice and visited some of the places suggested and not once were we disappointed. Some good places to see and visit whether as a couple or as a family.
Overall, an enjoyable busy weekend.
My girlfriend and I were just looking for somewhere to sleep over new year as we had a full party house hired about a mile away.
The owner Claire was very helpful and accommodating in helping us work around what I considered to be the main problem with the inn which was access to the room. Residents must be back at the room by 11:30 each night to allow the staff to secure the property, which I was not aware of in advance. I would not have booked the hotel if I had known this, however once we had agreed a time we would return Claire came to let us in.
The room was large and had a sea view, the hot water was somewhat intermittent through the shower and the cold tap didn't appear to work, but everything else was fine. Generally staff were friendly and the food was pretty good.
The east of this varied coastline features the deep 'combes' (wooded valleys) of Exmoor, which plunge down to the sea, most dramatically at Lynton and Lynmouth. Westward are traditional English seaside towns with long sandy beaches (Ilfracombe, Woolacombe). Beyond the characterful towns of Barnstaple and Bideford, Clovelly is a picture-book, whitewashed fishing village, while Hartland Point is known for its dramatic, storm-battered cliffs.
