The first room they offered us was quite nice but there was a not very pleasant smell in the bathroom and there were no armchairs to sit while watching the TV. The second room was very much better with 2 armchairs .
Very warm welcome at this comfortable hotel. We had a double bed room at the back, which was very quiet (although some guests at the front did mention hearing noise from outside). The room was an adequate size, large enough for a couple, but was not massive. Shower was nice and warm. Everything was very clean, tidy and functional so no complaints at all. We went whilst it was very warm weather, and the room was perfectly cool enough (we did have the window 1/2 open, and no noise issues). The owners were an Irish couple, who were very friendly and welcoming, and were happy to give any advice on places to go and visit etc. Breakfast was a full English, with Cereals, tea / coffee etc. Nothing posh, but very nice pleasant breakfast. There is limited public parking just outside of the B&B for about 5 cars on the road. This parking is free from 6pm to 10am, and 50p per hour during the day. We parked there for two nights with no problems. The B&B is in a good location. Its about 5 min walk to the harbour and the Verity statue, and there are a number of good restaurants and cafes within a 5-10 min walk. Overall, a very comfortable B&B, and would have no problem recommending to others based on our experience.
This is an outstanding hotel. It stands in a commanding position on the edge of Ilfracombe, with good views over the town to the sea. Our room was very well appointed, large and comfortable. Much detail had clearly been carefully thought out during the complete and extensive refurbishment of the hotel in 2011-12. The owners, Anne-Marie and Barry were extremely helpful at all times, and very hospitable. We felt that our stay represented very good value for money.
The east of this varied coastline features the deep 'combes' (wooded valleys) of Exmoor, which plunge down to the sea, most dramatically at Lynton and Lynmouth. Westward are traditional English seaside towns with long sandy beaches (Ilfracombe, Woolacombe). Beyond the characterful towns of Barnstaple and Bideford, Clovelly is a picture-book, whitewashed fishing village, while Hartland Point is known for its dramatic, storm-battered cliffs.
