“Cheap & cheerful, but pleasant hotel”
The hotel sells itself as 4 star - it is certainly not; based on the vast experience of staying in hundreds of hotels worldwide, this is barely 2-start going on 3-star establishment. There are good points though: it is really secluded, nice views, quiet, peaceful, has fairly clean rooms, ok-ish pools and plenty of sun-beds. The problems are: it is really run down (missing lamp shades, 70s air-conditioning systems and bathrooms,) pools are not clean, cheap green grass-look-alike material around the pools looked particularly unpleasant. If you are after a cheap, but pleasant-enough break, this is the place to go. If you want a bit more refinement, avoid it.
“Nice and relaxing”
Located in a quiet neigborhood away from main square. Nice quiet room. Helpful staff. Good restaurant with friendly staff. Would definitely stay there if we go back to Gozo!
“A friendly & charming hotel in a quiet area”
A charming hotel with very friendly and helpful staff in one of the nicest locations on Gozo. We arrived at 6am after a night time flight and a ferry crossing and were pretty travel warn. So it was wonderful to have a friendly greeting from a 24 hour manned reception desk. We were fit for bed but were told we must have some breakfast after our journey so the restaurant was opened especially early for us - Wonderful. We eat only one evening at the hotel and the food was excellent. It's a real gem of a place on an island where in many areas it has become over developed - being a couple of miles away from the Gozo coast this is not the case here. Parking was also easy for the hire car and there are nice restaurants in the small town nearby (easy walking distance).
“perfect for winding down.”
The Cornucopia isnt pretentious, it isnt modern, what it is, is old fashioned elegance, with staff who go out of their way to be helpful ( something we didnt find in some other Maltese hotels). the location is deffinately, " of the beaten track" but the setting is stunning with amazing views across the north of the island. Dont miss the oportunity to try the food at "Ta Frenc" (just over a mile away). without doubt the best on Gozo or Malta and not as pricey as some reviews suggest ( try the fixed price 4 courses). all in all I would deffinately recommend this hotel, but if you want to explore the remote bays and coves, get a car.
“Excellent option for a stay in Gozo”
Cornucopia is well known as a popular hotel in Gozo. My favorite feature: its two pools and an unheated whirlpool. Oh, and the two cats that hang out in the courtyard. Breakfast is provided. The staff are friendly--like everyone in Malta, it seems. The hotel is in Xaghra, a village with temples that are the world's oldest freestanding structures. There are some good restaurants in the town's main square.
“A wonderful hotel”
Cornucopia is a very high standard hotel with personal service, the sort of which has become rare. Our room was very comfortable. Atmosphere was welcoming. All hotel staff were always friendly, helpful and most attentive. Breakfast and supper - we had half board - were abundant and varied (including local specialities and wines). Weather was still winterish during our stay, but the swimming pools must be quite an attraction in warmer seasons. On the other hand, the carnival days supplied a lot of color and joy.
“We look forward to going back.”
The hotel is an attractive building which has been well restored and has a lot of character. All the staff are committed to guests' well being and are well informed and helpful. We appreciated this and we saw how helpful they were to other guests as well. Our room was somewhat cold and a little bare, with no carpet. However it was comfortable and adequately equipped and very clean, but smelt strongly of the disinfectant they use which is not a very pleasant smell. We had dinner in the dining room one evening and felt it was good value and enjoyable. The breakfast buffet which was included in our rate was also good and a nice touch was that we were voluntarily offered freshly cooked eggs as then ones that had been kept hot had gone a litte rubbery. Little touches like this mean a lot. Thee are some good walks in the vicinity, and Xhagra, 5 minutes walk to the centre, has some interesting historical sites to visit, but a few hours is sufficient, and is connected to Victoria and the rest of the island by a bus service a few times a day. The buses are a fun part of the experience of a trip to the Maltese Islands and not to be missed. Xaghra also has two excellent restaurants in the square, under joint ownership. We look forward to another trip to Gozo in warmer weather and will definitely stay at the Cornucopia.
“staff can do magic”
Clean rooms and very helpful staff. The staff are an asset for the hotel
“Will return”
Our second visit. Although the room was not as nice as the visit everything else was. The staff are lovely because of the down turn there was plenty of room around the pool. The breakfast was plentiful though no fresh juice and no full english. The evening meal is good value 3 choices from 3 courses for 17 euro. All in all for a quiet get away from the bustle holiday I doubt it can be beaten.
“Pleasant getaway”
We had 2 nights here out of 7 in Malta & Gozo. The rooms look on to one of the two pools, and one range has sea views. There are many flowers and shady areas amongst the sun loungers. Room decor was rather tired; we had 2 dinners here, which were of local dishes, well presented. It's hard to find the hotel and the directions from the desk given were rather misleading
