We booked the hotel over the internet and took the optional upgrade to the luxurious room (with a Jacuzzi)
When we got there the room wasn't at all what we expected.
Our room came without a safe. The Jacuzzi was not working at all. We had no DVD player / music - just a TV with the basic French channels (which was of no use at all to us and remember - this is the luxurious room)
We asked for another room with safe, working jacuzzi and DVD but reception confirmed that this was the standard for all the luxury rooms - no safes and a general problem with all jacuzzis being out of order.
The room was very noisy at night times and very early mornings - snow car races opposite the road until midnight and snow scraper trucks from 5:30am onwards.
The heated pool wasn't hot enough to get into and the pool room was cold.
The food was really bad quality and often undercooked although the food was more than enough. The menu had limited variety - only four main course options, repeated every night. Some of these meals were not even available when ordered and the same for the selection of wines.
The staff was really helpful and friendly (but the director was very unhelpful, immature and arrogant)
The service in general was really bad due to a lack of staff and very poor management.
friendly staff - good location - beautiful views - and LOTS of water for dinner :-)

Friendly welcome, good breakfast, and nice central location.
There is a free bus which rotates around the town, but if you want to be in a ski in/out chalet, you might want to stay closer to the slope.
For a 2 star hotel i was very pleased & suprised by this hotel. The staff were really helpful and the bathroom & shower alot better than I expected! I plan on returning to Alpe D'Huez next year & hope to stay at Hotel Eliova - le chaix again.
This was my 3rd trip to the Alps and my first to L'Alpe D'Huez. I was very impressed with the standard of the hotel and the location is absolutely ideal for skiers/boarders. You can litterally ski to the door and the nearest lifts are only about 50yards away and are downhill so you can strap in and go. Les bergers is quieter than the main part of town but is close enough to the old towns array of shops, bars and resteraunts. Staying in the old town would mean dragging equiptment to the lifts and back which isnt ideal so if i was coming back i'd definitely stay in les bergers again. Ski lockers and bed linen are provided with optional tv. The rooms are a good size and could fit a family of 3/4 or a group of friends. Reception is only open certain times so check with them when you check in if you need anything. Also they ask for a 250euro deposit which must be paid by credit card or cash, they dont accept debit cards for this for some reason.

Very good except pool was very cold and offputting, even after I complained to reception and receptionist said 'well its 28 degrees!!' and hot tubs were slightly warmer but very uncomfortable as were far too cold. Therefore myself and the three other people that I stayed with never used these facilities.
Also when I went to check out they hit me with a 46 euro tax bill that was not explained to me upon booking which I think is not acceptable when I paid for everything in full upon booking.
My booking also was confirmed as two twin beds which we thought would be singles but were both doubles. When we complained the receptionist said that was across the board in the chalet. This needs addressing.
Overall fairly acceptable but could have been better
