“Look forward to another visit.”
Overwhelmed by courtesy of staff and the whole character of the hotel. Everything was excellent and rooms were outstanding. Would have loved a longer stay. Enjoyed the experience very much.
“It is an old, old hotel”
Hotel was clean and comfortable with friendly staff. We had a deluxe room on the 4th floor but the old sash windows let it down badly. Although the room had heavy duty curtains which helped retain the heat the bathroom had a huge window with only a blind. There was water penetration from driving rain and the bathroom was freezing. After complaining of no hot water we were advised to run two taps and the shower to get hot water out of the shower head. This was every time you wanted a shower. No car parking available and the nearest was a 10 minute walk away at £26 for 24 hours. When receiving the final bill there was an additional £1 per person per night for a dedicated charity which you could ask to have removed if you did not want to contribute. They is the incorrect way to conduct charity appeals putting the guest in an embarrassing position but I am sure the hotel was well aware of their tactics. While using the hotel bar there were guests using vulgar language within their own company but for everyone to hear without any intervention from the bar management. When approached by an elderly gentleman and his wife voicing their disgust a member of the party simply replied "you should have said something and we would have stopped". You just do not expect to take your family to hotel of this star rating and have these problems.
“Bad Consierge Service”
The hotel was in the middle of a refurbishment, but there was no note of this upon booking. The work was going on outside of our window, so there was a bit of constuction noise during our stay. The consierge service was terrible. They managed to completely mess up a dinner reservation (leaving us to find an alternative), and were no help whatsoever when it came to recommendations for anything (had no idea where a good place for breakfast would be). Not quite what I would expect from a Hilton...
“Already booked another trip!”
Absolutely fantastic, although the corridors seemed a little warn the rooms were superb! 5 minute walk to the castle and virtually in the grounds of Princes Street Gardens, you couldn't want more! I've stayed in several so called "5 Star" hotels but this really was one! The staff were so helpful - I wasn't treated differently as an expedia guest - as is sometimes the case! I've already booked to go back in a few weeks time. Since its a Hilton you know what your getting - service and class!
“"The best location in Edinburgh"”
Five star location and five star service. One of the few hotels that give old-fashioned service with all-of today's mod-cons. One of the few hotels that provide toast-racks to stop your toast becoming soggy! As for location you are opposite the castle and with Prince's street right on the corner. Enter the Caledonian and you are transported back in time to what hotels used and should be like.
“Enjoyed the Edinburgh Caledonian”
We stayed at this hotel for 10 days in Aug 2011. The hotel needs a facelift but still bears charm and is ideally located close to the best Edinburgh has to offer in restaurants, attractions, business core, parks etc. Our room directly faced Edinburgh castle. Unlike some other reviews, we had no issue with noise or air conditioning. The breakfast was included - no need for vouchers - and was ample, serving everything from porridge to eggs. Quality was adequate. The concierge desk was extremely helpful in providing information, setting up a car rental and giving us the lowdown on restaurants and events. We timed our trip during the festival, which is a must because there's a myriad of things to do and a great vibe across the city. We also spent a few days in the country side. Not altogether impressed with a a local tour to Stirling Castle and it rained a lot over our time there, but that seems to fit the theme. The hotel's vintage is reminiscent of the Waldorf but in worse repair - needs a cash injection into windows, carpeting, paint, but it has a nice cachet. Housekeeping was good and everyone was very polite - which we found the Scots to be all 'round. Never did find Jamie Fraser. Did find some good restaurants - but don't spend too much time eating pub food if you are into eating healthily. The gym, by the way, was not well equipped at all and seems to be added as a not-so-serious afterthought.
“Great location, friendly staff, clean and comfortable hotel”
If you want to be in the centre, close to bus stop from airport, shopping, sight seeing and conference centre - this is the hotel for you.
“amazing from start to finish.”
our stay at the hilton was completely flawless amazing staff, sparkling clean........pleasant and comfortable throughout amazing after care service at hand at all times
“Fantastic location!”
We really enjoyed our stay in Edinburgh. The hotel is in a fantastic location, close to shops, restaurants and bars plus great view of the castle espcecially at night! The hotel staff were friendly and the concierge were particularly helpful especially as on our first day we had to make a trip to the local A&E. Our only critisium of the hotel was the health club, we only used this once but found the changing rooms dirty, towels just left on the floor and around the swimming pool was the same. For a 5* hotel it's not how I would expect to find the facilities.
“Very dissapointing!”
This is a five star hotel? What a joke! Room had no air-conditioning, a broken lock, a stain on the roof and just a general run down feel to it. I would not recommend it to anyone, as cheaper, cleaner and better maintained hotels exist.
