Lovely setting and very nice facilities

Posted 14-Sep-2014
Pros: The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The setting was very lovely. Good walks were right outside the hotel.
Location: The location was ideal for taking good walks. Being outside a small village makes the hotel a much more desirable place since it is more peaceful.
The hotel has lovely views of the lake. The facilities are up-to-date. It is well situated in the Lakes District relative to various places to visit and ease of travel to other ares of the Lakes (e.g., good bus service).

Pros: We ate in the restaurant on the first night, and the quality of the food was excellent
Cons: We were disappointed not to have a lake view room.
A good quality very clean hotel ,just on the outskirts of Grassmere.

Hotel has a good location

Posted 23-Aug-2014
The hotel has a good location and good facilities, our room was a good size and in very good condition with a modern feel. The spa facility was excellent and again in good condition. The only negative experience was with the restaurant, the service was poor and the food overpriced.

Pros: its setting, fabric and cleanliness were all excellent
Cons: low energy lighting in rooms is a little too low and too slow to warm up
Location: Dove cottage opposite hotel, hotel on edge of lake

Not as special as we expected.

Posted 15-Aug-2014
Pros: Room was nice although we were told the best rooms had been allocated to the wedding guests.
Cons: General cleanliness around the hotel, standards of dress at breakfast, pyjamas really? Sound proofing in the treatment rooms at the spa.
Location: Ambleside is nearby and offers some lovely restaurants and walks. The Grasmere Hotel does a fabulous dinner, highly recommended.
We were looking forward to a lovely relaxing stay at this hotel and were attracted by its lakeside position and the spa. There were 2 weddings there during our stay. The first was a lovely affair, pleasant people etc. the second was awful, rude people who were quite disrespectful to the hotels property. They upturned chairs and tables by the lake and threw the chair cushions around and even snapped off the plants in the hanging baskets. More than high spirits. No clearing up was done by the hotel for around 24 hours, so we still couldn't use the facilities by the lake the next day. We were also turned away from the lobby bar due to this wedding. Not very welcoming! The spa was okay, expensive for what you actually got and my treatment finished 15 minutes earlier than expected. It was also very noisy, not conducive to relaxation. We did mention all of this to the receptionist when we were settling our bill. She apologised, fine, but there appeared to be a small smirk appearing, so we quite expected they were going to have a bit of a giggle about it when we left.

A real oddity in the Lakes

Posted 17-Jun-2014
Pros: Location
Cons: Staff competency
Location: The Lakes - what more could you want!?
This is an extraordinarily odd hotel that seems quite out of place in Grasmere. Very modern, bright, urban and faux chic. It comes across as anodyne and bland while fulfilling all the criteria for a smart venue hotel: spa, terrace and lounge. Staff seemed ill managed and ill trained but cheerful enough. Lacking in competency. Rooms clean, well appointed and large. Restaurant feels like a Moto motorway services one, but food was excellent. Wine choice seemed wide enough, but our choice was out of stock - 3 times in a row! eventually opted for taking the house red, which they had! Location is unique and stunning.

Perfect Weekend

A peaceful and serene stay, even during a bank holiday weekend. We couldn't recommend it highly enough. Perfect for that special occasion.

Weddings run the hotel

Posted 25-May-2014
Pros: Comfortable hotel in a gorgeous lakeside location in the Lake District. It is a short walk from the village of Grasmere.
Cons: The hotel needs a lot more soundproofing or a way of switching off the power to loud music if it cannot make guests comply with its rules on loud musi
This is a lovely lakeside hotel, very clean, with an excellent restaurant. However, our visit was ruined when loud music from a wedding party was allowed to thump until 11:30 at night when we had to get up to drive the next day. We tried to call reception to complain, but they would not answer the phone.
