A real oddity in the Lakes

Posted 17-Jun-2014
Pros: Location
Cons: Staff competency
Location: The Lakes - what more could you want!?
This is an extraordinarily odd hotel that seems quite out of place in Grasmere. Very modern, bright, urban and faux chic. It comes across as anodyne and bland while fulfilling all the criteria for a smart venue hotel: spa, terrace and lounge. Staff seemed ill managed and ill trained but cheerful enough. Lacking in competency. Rooms clean, well appointed and large. Restaurant feels like a Moto motorway services one, but food was excellent. Wine choice seemed wide enough, but our choice was out of stock - 3 times in a row! eventually opted for taking the house red, which they had! Location is unique and stunning.

Weddings run the hotel

Posted 25-May-2014
Pros: Comfortable hotel in a gorgeous lakeside location in the Lake District. It is a short walk from the village of Grasmere.
Cons: The hotel needs a lot more soundproofing or a way of switching off the power to loud music if it cannot make guests comply with its rules on loud musi
This is a lovely lakeside hotel, very clean, with an excellent restaurant. However, our visit was ruined when loud music from a wedding party was allowed to thump until 11:30 at night when we had to get up to drive the next day. We tried to call reception to complain, but they would not answer the phone.

Location is at the center of the district

Posted 24-Feb-2014
Pros: Location is good, room is apacious.
Cons: aircon/vent motors are pretty noisy at night, which should be covered by some sound-proof thing somehow.
Location: Right by the dove cottage.
We visited the Lake District in February for a weekend. The room is clean and spacious. We choose a room without view (so price is a little cheaper). It turns out to be a bad choice. The hotel puts the air conditioner/ventilation motors at the no-view (East) side of the hotel building. It is noisy, especially after mid night. It sounds like a big truck engine idling, on and off iregularly but frequently. The hotel staff and manager know of the noise, but the information is not given clearly to customers. We talked to the manager, it seems that she thinks that the noise level is low, although the night shift staff admits this noise clearly. I would prefer to stay in a quiet room, even if it is more expensive. If you prefer to stay in this hotel, probably you should try to choose those rooms with view ( I believe that those rooms are far enough from those aircon/vent motors).

Great hotel

Posted 28-Jan-2014 on Hotels.com
Booked this as a birthday treat for my partner and wasn't disappointed. I booked a lake side view and although slightly more expensive it was worth the extra just for the view when waking up in the morning. The room was very nice and the bed probably one of the most comfortable I've slept in. The only annoyance was the noise of the aircon/heater however there is a controller on the wall so we switched it off. All the staff were very friendly and helpful and it can't fault any of them. Food and bar prices were good and actually cheaper than my local pub. Would I visit again? Definitely, we are already looking at going again in the summer.

Great location for walking

No problems food was very good only the bar let it down. Small with a string curtan around it that moved and made your eyes go funny. You stay again but would not use the bar

Good situation for viewing the Lake District

Posted 26-Oct-2013
Pros: Well situated for sightseeing in the Lake District
Cons: The amenities in the public lounge.
Location: Walking distance to Dove Cottage and a short drive to Ambleside and Windermere.
Very comfortable except for the sloping ceiling in the bedroom. The public lounge was not particularly inviting but otherwise I could not fault the hotel.

Fantastic hotel

Posted 18-Oct-2013
This hotel is expensive but there is a reason for that! We were upgraded before we arrived to a Valley View room, and on request, were allocated a room with a super king bed. It was awesome and so comfortable! This hotel was renovated only 18 months ago (writing in October 2013) and the rooms and furnishings look brand new. The shower in our room was powerful, just the way we like it! Lovely spa facilities. The young lady who was working at the spa was extremely welcoming. Cannot fault this hotel. Would love to stay again if we go back to the Lake District.
