“A decent hotel for the price”
Hotel is showing signs of age , could do with a refurbishment but saying that it is not expensive and is conveniently located for all the major attractionsD
“Renaissance Koeln Hotel -clean, comfortable and quiet”
We were on the sixth floor, right outside the lift on the road side but still we couldn't hear a thing. The beds are those type that you sink into and sleep immediately. The service was traditionally German, efficient! The only downside if you make it, is the distance from the Christmas Markets but in reality they were only a few U bahn stops. We are already co-ordinating the next trip to Koln. I would like the comparison of Christmas merriment compared to a normal day.
“Will return”
Very nice comfortable hotel. excellent breakfast. Good value club lounge with tea coffee 24hrs per day plus beer & wine from 17.50
“Nice Hotel”
Very well presented hotel just 10 minutes walk from the Cathedral and just a stones throw from the tube in case it is raining (Which it did a lot!) We arrived at the hotel to be greeted by very friendly reception staff who told us we had booked the 'club' package, this was a nice surprise as we had not paid extra for this through expedia! This included a high floor room, free Wifi, a free Pay TV movie per day and access to the club lounge where free drinks & food could be had. The room was a good size and had a king bed and all the things you expect including a god sized bathroom and nice shower. Would definitely recommend for anyone holidaying in Cologne, nice hotel in a good location and very well priced for the experience.
“Better than expected”
The hotel is a bit away from the city centre. Having said that, it is a mere 10 minutes walk to the Cologne Dome but this could be a problem for some people. The hotel itself is nicely appointed and staff were friendly and helpful. However, there is quite a bit of noise from the road with some people who have obviously had too much gluwein and overzealous German drivers. Also for a five stars hotel, I think it is disappointing that the hotel does not provide a free Wi-Fi connection. Overall, we would recommed this hotel and would be happy to stay there again. But it would be a good idea to have ear plugs or rooms away from the main road.
“Not even close to 5 stars”
The decor and facilities are great, the beds are incredibly comfortable, but it was the service and cost of extras that really let this hotel down. We arrived in the evening and were treated with almost disdain at the restaurant for not having a reservation, even though we could clearly see four empty tables and the restaurant was open for another couple of hours. The veal chop was good but overcooked and the serrano-wrapped monkfish was so overcooked you could have used it as a squash ball. Service was very sloppy and we actually had to ask for a dessert menu at which point the same waitress that 'greeted' us seemed stunned that we might even want one. The bar is expensive, even more than expected for a 5 star and a spirit and mixer will set you back 10-12 euros. The bar staff are very friendly and know their drinks, but unfortunately there are more tables than staff to cover them; when we popped in for a nightcap on the Saturday night I had to go and order drinks after waiting 15 minutes for table service and 25 minutes after that I had to complain that we still hadn't had them. A few other tables were similarly unimpressed and it was clear that two staff were not enough. Wireless internet is available at 15 euros a day - I didnt bother at that price. The pool and sauna are free to use but I didn't have the opportunity so couldn't comment. I would stay again but would certainly never consider paying full price - you really do not get what you pay for here.
“comfortable and attractive hotel in a good location”
I got this as a package with the Club Lounge, which we made pretty good use of - drinks before going out of an evening and we had coffee and cakes in the afternoon. The hotel has an attractive and welcoming entrance which was tastfully decorated for Christmas. The room was a reasonable, but not large, size and although not luxourious, it was comfortable and well furnished. Breakfast - good selection of all the usual stuff and reasonable quality. We didn't try the pool or sauna, but the pool looked nice, though rather small, that is typical of a hotel pool. My one gripe is that the bath robe provided had a large hole in it! After the first night, i left the robe out on the bed with the hole on display but it wasn't replaced. The hotel is well located and we were able to walk to anything we wanted to see including the Christmas markets.
“More than happy!”
I will look for this brand of hotel in the future as my first choice. The hotel did all they could to make our stay the best. We had several additional requests which were all accomodated. If I were gonig to Cologne in the near future I wouldn't go anywhere else!
“Very impressed.”
Large, airy, comfortable and clean room with all facilities and conveniences one would expect from a 4 star hotel. Efficient, friendly and helpful staff.
“Will go back again”
This is a first class hotel, the facilities are excellent. Only issues, The hot breakfast is not hot. It stands too long & hardens off. The eggs benedict, better left alone. They need to cook less & more often. The description of only a few minutes walk from the Dom/ Hof incorrect. It takes 10-15 minutes at best.
