changes

Posted 23-Feb-2015
Pros: Staff very good and helpful, very clean and comfortable rooms
Cons: revert to the original restaurant and return the conservatory to its previous use as a quiet refuge for a snack and coffee whilst enjoying the view
Location: enjoy the local countryside
stayed there previously when able to sit in conservatory and watch the wildlife outside. This has now been made into a very narrow restaurant and is not very comfortable .The food was over priced and very average for the price. We ate out on the second night.Ludo the maitre de was at least pleasant on this visit whilst in the past he has been condescending and quite rude. The changes made have ,in our opinion ,made the hotel less appealing.

A pleasant stay in a mid-range hotel.

Pros: The service and the grounds. Good value for money
Cons: The room could have been improved with some more up to date furniture and some more pictures
Location: A pleasant country house feel, though the gardens were simply lots of lawn a little evidence of much gardening beyond mowing the lawn
The staff were very helpful throughout. The room was satisfactory - quite plain but very clean. We found a very pleasant small lounge to finish off the evening with a glass of wine. Breakfast was fine without being particularly special. Nice grounds to walk in.

If only the service was better

Main course came out while I still eating starter; 2 minutes later they were trying to bring it out again when I clearly still wasn't ready. Staff argued about covering a morning slot loudly and sometimes openly. Nice open space, inside and out; big room. TV reception bad as was choice of channels.

Country Estate

Very tranquil and relaxing for our overnight stay. Breakfast was very good and served in the conservatory with lovely views over the grounds and parkland. There does seem to be a preference for large groups, wedding parties and conferences etc.

Rooms clean and comfortable, service was very bad due to a large conference, almost non existence. Decor rather tired however gardens were beautifully kept.

Nice on the outside. A room lottery inside.

First impressions good- great location, imposing building, pleasant reception. We stayed on a Saturday, and asked to be moved rooms because the wedding disco was too close for sleep. The helpful reception staff duly moved us into the mews block, which whilst quiet, was incredibly musty. So unpleasantly so, that even with the window open all night, you couldn't ignore the smell. The sort of room that, whilst it seemed clean, you didn't feel like having a shower in. On check-out, the reception staff were understanding, and to their credit, did knock a little off the bill. I suspect that there are some nice rooms here, and if you find them, it'd be lovely. A bit of a lottery, though.
