Pros: Views
Cons: Maitre D
Location: Excellent wildlife views and peaceful, lots of places to visit,Newbury and Reading excellent
All staff helpful except for MaƮtre d .On this visit and a previous visit he did not make us feel welcome and came over as very stuck up and rude.Suggested we dine at local pub and on previous visit insisted we go away and come back in a half hour after we arrived for dinner a half hour early, rest of staff brilliant, especially Peter and Joao

Great value for money

Very comfortable, luxurious hotel room for a very reasonable price. Only criticism was no lift to get heavy bags up to our first floor room and no help offered to carry everything. There was some noise from a party going on downstairs but it was the Saturday before Christmas so you have to expect it really. Breakfast was very nice and the views from the dinning room are stunning which really adds to the experience.

Amazing views, friendly staff. Hotel could do with a deep clean and refit but it didn't seem to matter given the positives.

Considerate receptionist, positioning us away from two Christmas parties, however, the room in The Mews was not 4* standard and not up to the standard of the rest of the hotel. Recommend you stay in the main hotel, not the outbuilding.

Lovely setting in the country. Room was very spacious. Some woodwork in the bathroom needed some attention. Overall a very nice place with nice grounds and helpful and friendly staff.

very tired hotel in attractive setting

Never a good idea to stay in a hotel at the same time as a 126-person wedding. But even allowing for that, the food was poor and the service was worse. And the whole place had a very tired, worn-out feel to it. The only contrast was the charming night porter who was very helpful.
