Spa
Sounkyo Kanko Hotel
3.0 star property
7.6 out of 10, Good, (204)
"Old school, old fashioned (read: dated decor, manual check-outs, actual keys for your room), traditional spa resort. The mixed onsen is great, lots of space and different temperatures so you can easily find your perfect spot. Definitely go half board as the evening buffet is excellent. Highly recommended."

La Vista Daisetsuzan
4.0 star property
9.0 out of 10, Wonderful, (253)
"We cannot recommend La Vista Daisetsuzan enough. We skied Asahi-dake two days and staying here made skiing simple. The front desk was incredibly helpful and kind. The food was delicious, and the onsen was the perfect way to end each day. The hotel is older but updated in all the necessary ways. It has an ageless charm. The room was super comfortable. We absolutely loved every part of our stay. Quick tip: make sure to make your dinner and breakfast reservations before arrival. They send an email...

"The hotel is lovely! A bit dated but very well maintained. The included buffet dinner and breakfast were amazing with many choices of Japanese and Western food! Lovely rooftop onsen plus ground floor onsen. The area around the hotel is a quiet with many ships and restaurants closed but that allowed us to enjoy the hotel facilities."

Yumoto Shirogane Onsen Hotel
3.0 star property
8.0 out of 10, Very good, (458)
"They gave us the worst possible room. It was a room with one flight of staircup, then one floor of stairs down with no elevators. When I noticed several empty rooms I asked if she could change the room and she said it will cost us extra 20,000 yens. We had two suitcases to carry up and then down and no help was offered. I expected a bit more for the price I paid. Meals were also just fine. The hot springs temperature is very hot. The open air bath was better. However when I visited in the...

Asahidake Onsen Hotel Deer Valley
3.5 star property
8.0 out of 10, Very good, (45)
" Lovely stay at Deer Valley, staff were great, very friendly. Really liked that meals were served at your table - we had stayed at a few other places recently that were all buffet style. The food was very very nice, and the italian dinner focus was a nice change from several weeks of japanese food. Breakfast was a large american plate, which also included a tasty curry soup (love that about hokkaido). Onsen has a nice view of Asahidake, and it was good to have the option to also take an onsen...

"We just spent five weeks in Japan and are still talking about the food we ate here. It is nothing short of spectacular. We paid quadruple at other ryokans and this one had the best food, best location and the best onsens. It’s an older place with older, big onsens and for us that was the charm of it. The rooms are very clean, the beds are comfortable. The staff was incredibly kind. We went skiing one day and snowshoeing the next and ended up seeing a red fox each day. Really can’t recommend this...
