Hotel is very close to the cable car in small town of Sounkyo. We were there at off-season so it was quiet. Hotel is bit old but its a nice experience to stay in traditional Japanese accommodation. Rooms and tatami mattress were fine and fits in 4 people (albeit bit tight). Onsen was a good experience to have thats built in the hotel that we all enjoyed. Other facilities appears old and breakfast was average. The town was quiet due to off season with plenty shops closed. I loved the onsens here … especially the mixed outdoor one at night. It had a nice vibe. It was walkable to 7/11 and other places in town. Parking was tricky in the evening, but managed to figure it out. Pillows were like sacks of hard beans, the outdoor onsen was dirty and the food was clearly the worst I have experienced in eight trips to Japan. We were misled from the time we arrived, as we were told there were no restaurants in town. We later saw that was not the case. It was all a ruse to get you to buy dinner at their substandard restaurant. The whole building looked run down and smelt stale.
