We spent 5 nights at Doña Filipa hotel. to celebrate my daughters special birthday. We upgraded to a golf view room on the 4th floor which although not modernised had a good view and was comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful and service good . All the staff were very friendly and ready to please. The independant resturants close by the beach catered for families with children of all ages , with plenty of choice from Mexican to Chinese , and Italian This explains why the hotel resturant was not well booked while we were there., even when the food was good. Our teenage Grandchildren loved the venue . The hotel was perfect for them .they made plenty of friends around the pool . We have been to Dona Filipa to play golf in the autumn which is a great value holiday.. On the whole Dona Filipa lives up to its 5 star rating.
tastefully decorated hotel with a modern vibe. Rooms are on the small side but well laid out and adequate for a short stay if you are reasonably organised ( we were there 5 nights ) Breakfasts are good and staff are friendly and helpful . The hotel is located about 5 mins walk from the Quinta shopping centre and 15 mins from some excellent restaurants in the other direction .The problem is there are no pavements so to get anywhere on foot you have to walk on the stoney edge of a busy road. Manageable if you a a fit adult but definitely not for anyone with mobility issues nor for children
There is nothing to fault about this beautiful and stylish hotel, except its location... Nothing wrong with where it sits overlooking the Ria Formosa and close to the beach etc. But if you want to go to a restaurant/shop etc. it is a long taxi ride with nothing walkable apart from one beach restaurant. So its car hire, which negates restaurant exploring! That said, the recently open Bovino next door (although a 20 min stroll on the road) is likely to become a firm favourite of steak loving visitors.
This hotel is a must for relaxation. The rooms are spacious and modern, the nespresso machine in the room is a great addition and the balcony is more than generous. Breakfast has a great choice at the self serve and although we didn't sample the menu selection - this looked great too. Louro is great for lunch and dinner with a varied menu. The prawn popcorn and goats cheese starters are a must! Gusto is just fantastic, the service and experience is second to none - get a table on the balcony to watch the sun set as you eat for that added extra!
The pools are great - the infinity pool is quieter than the dado pool and more adult friendly. There were plenty of sun loungers which were very comfy! The cocktails at the pool are great - and the pool side food menu is spot on for lighter options.
The spa is lovely - some fantastic views of the national park from the infinity pool. The staff are great and tailor the treatments perfectly.
The staff could not do enough for you throughout the Conrad, especially at the front desk and really do make the stay perfect.
On the whole an outstanding hotel, great food, perfect weather - We hope to return!

We are a family of 5, with children aged 10,13 and 16. The hotel was a short trip from the airport and in a quiet road close to the beach. The location was excellent with a short walk through the woods to the beach. The hotel has well appointed large rooms. We stayed in a two bedroom apartment which had two bathrooms and a living room and kitchen with a large balcony. The hotel is very clean and well organised - the staff were excellent. The swimming pool is very nice and we had a few days when we stayed at the hotel - it was very hot mid 30's for the whole two weeks. The only drawbacks were that taxis were expensive and if you want to do trips out etc you need to travel to Vilamoura which is about 35mins away (35 euros in a cab). We should have booked a hire car. Food in the hotel was expensive and a bit plain but the breakfast was excellent. We will stay there again!
We turned up late in the evening knowing reception was closed. The security guard provided us with the keys to our room and was very friendly. Our stay was for fitness training, and we trained twice a day on the local roads in Quinta do Lago, and used the superb fitness amenities on-site (gym, sauna, steam room, pool) frequently. The gym was reasonably well kitted out and.
Our room itself was far better than I was expecting. We had a large, comfortable living room, good sized bedrooms, lush bathrooms and the kitchen was fantastic - it had more utensils than my kitchen at home!
We cooked our own meals in the evening but ate poolside at lunchtime and the food was excellent - we were particularly fond of Sr. Carlos's chicken with African rice!
The staff were very friendly - we didn't have much reason to talk to them, apart from to assist us with hiring a car, requesting an extra dressing gown and sending someone to unlock the room when we'd locked our key in the room (doh!). They were very helpful when we did need help, and there was a cleaner waiting to let us in when we got back! My only criticism here is that reception could be open for longer hours. The actual village of Almancil was very nice and we did drive over to Albufeira two nights. It's about 30-40 mins away and €40 each way by cab.
I will certainly be staying to train again next year. I would say that this hotel is ideal for a family holiday and with so many golf courses in the vicinity it'd be ideal for golfers
Just 15 minutes from the airport in Faro, the small town of Almancil is typical of the Algarve and known for its local pottery. However, Almancil is best known for being close to the top-end resorts Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo, which offer luxury accommodation, top-notch food, and excellent golf.
