Stayed on 2 separate occasions and had great experiences both times! All of our requests were responded to perfectly, and with a smile. I was traveling with friends and we had 2 rooms (4 rooms total). Each room was different, comfortable and quite luxurious! There are plenty of private sitting areas, indoors and outdoors, and great views of the city, Indian Ocean and beautiful lush foliage. Totally relaxing!
It was a difficult time as I had travelled from the U.K. to attend a family funeral. I wanted a place that would look after us during this difficult time. I am happy to say that on all levels : the grand beauty of the colonial hotel, pool, ambience, dining on the outside terrace over looking Durban, 5 star food and amazing service from the staff. Jean - Francois and his team were exceptional in meeting our needs and requests. I am very grateful for their understanding, professionalism and superb service. Our family would like to say a Big thank you to all the staff and hope to return under better circumstances in the future.
The young receptionist helped me order a airport shuttle that picked me up just outside of the hotel for 80 Rand instead of the 250 to 300 rand via taxi. She was very persistent and courteous. I also was delighted after a very good breakfast to find out that it was included in my rate. I strongly recommend the Quarters Hotel. The place is first rate, charming and is at the start of a very buzzy street.
Everything about my stay in this hotel was fine until check out, when I discovered that I was wrongly charged R350 for a car service from the airport to the hotel. I booked this trip and paid for it through Expedia. Before my trip, I called to confirm and I asked if the hotel has an airport pickup service. A staff said the hotel did not have that service but gave me a number of a car service to make my own arrangement. I NEVER called that car service because a friend who was also attending the conference got a rental car, picked me up from the airport straight to Durban ICC, where I registered for the conference and stayed until after 9 pm for the first program. I called the hotel from the ICC that I was arriving late, and also got direction to the hotel. My friend dropped me off at the hotel that night. When I explained this, one hotel staff member's immediate response was - "What is your friend's name?" "Where is she?" I felt hurt that she questioned my credibility, by asking for the name of my friend. I asked for evidence of car service - the name of the car company that supposedly picked me up from the airport, the time of the pick up, and any form of transaction with the car company, but the hotel staff could not provide any of these. Of course, I refused to pay for a service that I did not receive. The hotel staff did not acknowledge their mistake and did not offer an apology. I travel quite a bit and I have never had such an experience.

We got a room overlooking both the ocean and the river and were chaffed to boot!. Rooms were lovely, clean and the staff super friendly and helpful front desk to the security guards. The neighbourhood is quiet and safe - away from the madding crowds.Will definitely stay here again!!
