Walhalla Guesthouse is one ot the best places I've ever stayed as location and cleanliness. It is literally 2 min from the main train station in Zurich. Just across platform 18(on the train station). 15 min walk to the lake, through the main shopping street - Banhoff strasse and 15 min walk by the river to the old town, with all the restaurants and little boutiques. On the other side of the hotel 2 min walk and you are in the bus terminal. With all the busses which takes you not only out of Zurich but around Zurich too(all the tourist attraction busses). Nearby there are two supermarkets where you can buy some food and drinks. One, is situated inside the train station, just one floor down with the escalator, from the main informatin desk(this is the easiest way to find it). This Migros is the only supermarket open 7 days a week And the other one is if you just keep going along Museum strasse, towards the centre, on the left hand side. That one is Coop and is open from Monday to Saturday. Most of the shops in Switzerland are closed on Sunday. The good thing is that the prices are the same in all their supermarkets. No competition on that ground. There are many trams in front of Walhalla. The Guesthouse has 3 floors and a small lift. The room and the bathroom are in immaculate condition. Very basic but enough for a good stay. The only problem is the lack of small fridge and kettle. After long and tiring walks you need a cup of coffee or tea plus a cold drink from the fridge.
"Fairly priced lodging in the center of Old Town."
If you are looking for a large hotel with lotts of bells and whistles this is not the place for you. However, if you are looking for a comfortable, clean place to lay your head or do some work that is located right in the center of Zurich you should definitely consider staying at the Alexander Guesthouse. The Guesthouse is located 1 block behind the hotel. There is no front desk or security at the Guesthouse, but the front door and the room door required a key card (you need to check in and pick up a key at the Alexander Hotel, located 1 block away). The room was small, but absolutely perfect for me (female traveling alone), and had all the basics: bed, desk, hanging racks, bathroom with shower. It was clean. I will note that the Guesthouse is in the viscinity of a strip club, but there are a number of these clubs throughout Old Town, so it is not surprising (but something to keep in mind for those who rather not be close to one). The staff at the Alexander Hotel was great, very nice and accommodating. I would definitely stay here again.

Do not expect much. It is more like US motel. But the room is clean and the location is great.
* No A/C !
* Phone was not working
* It was a bit noisy outside during the night. Could not close the window (no A/C) to dampen the noise.
* Wi-Fi was working unreliably
* Breakfast is very modest (both in quality and variety).
* Great location
* Friendly staff
* Cheap, compared to other hotels in the area

We only stayed here one night and chose it because it was the most reasonably priced hotel near the train station (about 10 minutes walk). It was comfortable and clean but the biggest plus was the staff. The gentleman who checked us in gave us fantastic local advice and the lady who checked us out gave us a free breakfast due to a disturbance during the night which was beyond the hotels control.

The hotel looks new and modern. Room was very clean and nicely decorated. WiFi worked well. There is a Coop supermarket just 5 minutes away. The hotel is right next to the train station, getting to Zurich central is only 20 minutes of train ride. There is nothing to do in the surroundings, not a problem as I was already aware of that when I chose the hotel.
