Eskilstuna is known for its industry, and its rise to on of Sweden's most prominent manufacturings hubs has been well documented – from its first forges to the construction of the cities' first major modern factories. The old parts of the city are well preserved, and it's the perfect spot for anyone with an interest in architecture and history to start a tour of the city.

Eskilstuna is located in Sodermanland county and the city is home to a population of nearly 65,000. The city was named after a bishop, Eskil, who was based in the village of Tuna, which was to become the city of Eskilstuna. In 1771 the Swedish King Adolf Fredrik started attracting steel and metal workers to Eskilstuna with enticing promises of affordable loans and land to develop manufacturing facilities, which led to Eskilstuna becoming one of Sweden's industrial hubs.

No wonder most of the city is dominated by its rich industrial heritage. A trip to Eskilstuna promises will give visitors a fascinating into the country's past from a different point of view. Start your tour through the city with a visit to Eskilstuna City Museum, as well as the adjoining Faktotum, where the focus in on manufacturing texhniques, and the city's weapons collection, Vapentekniska samlingarna, where you will learn more about the city's key role as a weapons manufacturer.

Whilst Eskilstuna's past as one of Sweden's most important industrial cities, you may want to learn more about life in Eskilstuna across the centuries. Sormlandsgarden is the ideal spot to experience the local history and traditions first hand the museum is set in a genuine Swedish farm from the 1850's. Discover Gamla staden, Eskiltuna's old town, with a stroll among the many quaint houses and cute shops ideal for a relaxing afternoon of good food and fun shopping.

Eskilstuna is beautifully located by Eskilstuna River, a few kilometres south of Lake Malaren. If you're driving to Eskilstuna, you will be looking to get on E20 and Route 53, which will both pass through the city. There are also plenty of railway lines that will take you to Eskilstuna. Be sure not to miss out on a visit to Parken Zoo, where you'll find plenty of animals and activities to entire the entire family. If you're visiting the zoo in the summer, head down the road to Parkenbadet for a nice swim.
