(1,000 reviews) The hotel itself was great - large, spacious rooms, including a full soaking tub and huge shower, very clean and comfortable room. We had a small balcony to enjoy the views. Staff was very nice and helpful. Only a 5 minute walk to the Bastille where we enjoyed riding the cable cars up the mountain for an amazing view. However, the immediate area outside the hotel and throughout the city, we did not feel safe - even in the daytime. Do you research on crime and the sections to avoid. We made the mistake of walking from the train station to the hotel, but took an uber on the way back because we did not want to venture out, It's a shame because this city has so much potential. Even in the local coffee shop, there are signs on the table inside to be aware of pickpockets. (77 reviews) Booked to be on the route of stage 20 of Tour de France but due to landslide route changed. Hotel however was ok even though we didn't expect to have to clean our room at the end or pay 45 euros. As it was we were rarely there, too busy doing Galibier and the Telegraphe cols. Clearly this is not a hotel but designed for other clientele. If you wanted self catering the facilities in the room were excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful. There is a pool although we didn't see it. You can order bread for the next day and there are plenty of restaurants less than 1 km away. There is also a good Carrefour. It served its purpose for us. When I arrived to check in they were rude and told me that I have outdoor parking and it is €95\. They completely denied anything they said on the phone. The room is fine other than the easyJet style furnishings. Also some of the beds were not made, you had to put the duvet cover on yourself, hostel style. So odd.
