Emails were not answered, requests were not acknowledged, and staff did not seem willing to accommodate or fully understand our needs. As we were staying for a wedding and the other party was at the same hotel, this made the experience more complicated than it should have been. Unfortunately, it was not an easy or smooth stay. (1,795 reviews) Enjoyed our family’s stay at the Grand. We also visited the other two properties (Nizuc and Sunrise). The Grand is by far the nicest and I’m glad we picked it. I originally chose it because of the water park and the kids activities, but my kids (10 and 12) didn’t really spend much time at the water park. The grounds were much more beautiful and spread out than the other two properties, with multiple smaller pools that each had different vibes, which was nice for relaxation vs one big party pool. The walks weren’t too far and it was easy to catch a golf cart taxi if you wanted a ride. I didn’t care for the food at the buffet style restaurants, but we really enjoyed Habibi and the pizza at Caribeno and the Italian spot Tavola. Staff was friendly, great service, nice amenities in the rooms. We also enjoyed the French cafe in the lobby that was open 24/7\. A couple things I wish I had known before going. 1\. This resort is like a small city and far from the other hotels, so it seemed like a pain to go anywhere else. For example by the last day we had gotten a little bored and wanted to take a tour, or ride the ferry to Isla Mujeres, but the resort had blocked access to local tour websites and it was crazy expensive to even get a ride anywhere so we just stayed. 2\. You are not going to get a beach vacation. The beach was very separate from all the amenities. The many different animals at the resort made the stay entertaining and we especially enjoyed the spider monkeys. Now the bad, many of the buildings were old and run down and there was a constant smell of raw sewage. I do understand that we are in the damp jungle but this did still smell pretty bad. (1,001 reviews) It started with a very enthusiastic greeting from Elias who went out of his way for the 9 days we stayed to take care of all us (3 couples) and ensure a seamless experience. The staff at the El Beso swim up bar were also amazing! The rooms were spotless and well maintained. The food in the buffet was varied and there was plenty of it at all times. The specialty restaurants were all delicious and menus were well planned and executed. We chose to enjoy the Valentines Day beach front evening dining experience and it was well worth it! All in all we had a wonderful time and will return to the Ocean line of resorts again and again(4th one in 2.5 yrs.) Which is very sad because of they did staff would get a lot more tips. Lots of additional fees. Like $40 per person for cleaning the beach. Each tour has an additional $20 per person for marina fees. Be prepared to stand in long lines for towels if you het them. People rerserve chairs as early as 6am. After 8am there is no place to sit unless you pay $120\.
