Dominican Republic Scuba Diving Holidays

Resort was absolutely stunning—postcard-perfect w breathtaking views from every corner. Beach access was convenient, pool was clean & never had a strong chlorine smell & rooms were spotless w fresh towels provided daily. The fridge was also restocked ea day, which was a nice touch. The dinner reservation system was a bit frustrating at times, but we were able to make it work. Unfortunately, Portofino’s was a disappointment despite all the positive reviews we read. When we arrived for our reservation, the hostess seemed inconvenienced by our presence. Even after showing proof of our reservation, we were seated outside the main dining area near the kitchen, which felt more like overflow seating. MEAT, Tequila, and the Sports Bar were our top three dining experiences, & would definitely recommend them to others. Our assigned concierge, Kevin, was very attentive during the first couple of days but then seemed to disappear f the remainder of our stay. We booked one excursion & were told we’d be back in time for our dinner reservation that evening. However, we didn’t return until about 3 hours after our reservation time. We reached out to Kevin, but although he read the message, he never responded. The Saona Island excursion was phenomenal—definitely a highlight—but be prepared for a full day. We left at 7:15 a & returned at 9:15p. The daytime pool entertainment was exceptional. Wilson, Gabriel & Evelyn were absolute ROCKSTARS! The evening entertainment lacked slightly. (B-)

Good experience, food was good, amenities and events were good, lots of entertainment, friendly staff. Room could benefit from some sound proofing. Overall maintenance is good but not great. Last two days there was no hot water; although not necessarily needed. Air conditioning is strong but noisy. In general terms, our experience was really good. I would recommend the hotel but do not expect a 5 stars experience.

The air conditioning seemed to be timed and on a sensor. When the door was opened or we left the room it shut off making it uncomfortable to come back to. Also the elevators did not work and we were put on the 3rd floor and I am handicapped. So it did make it a little difficult. And just a lot of walking to destinations with no assist for people in my situation and there were a lot of elderly people there with us. Other than that everything was wonderful. The food was great. The shows were fantastic. And the staff very welcoming. The vendors in the middle on the way to the casino were ridiculous. They tried to sell my wife any and everything and they didn’t not take NO for an answer. And their prices were ridiculous luckily my wife is not Pendeja but I can see them taking advantage of elderly people or people that get scared easily. This is unacceptable they do not stop until you buy something!

Everything was great at the resort from the room to the amenities and the staff were very nice but we were sick multiple days from the food or water so be careful.

We reserved a suite which was not available the first night we were there due to a pipe breaking leaving the resort without water. The staff was really good in trying to rectify all of the issues we experienced because there were more. We ended up with a nice room with an ocean view. Ocean views at this resort a very limited. The food is just bad, no other way to describe it. It seems the property is just old and tired. The grounds are very well kept though. Just too old and expensive for what you get.
