The hotel was very nice and the staff members were very welcoming. It is in a great location with shopping, food, and casinos close by. We enjoyed our stay. There were a few things that my group was less than impressed with. First, we all had to pay a resort fee. This isn’t a resort. It is a normal hotel with a famous name. It has a very small indoor pool next to a super small workout facility. A real resort has amenities and attractions that keep you on the premises. Not sure why there is a resort fee. Maybe because we get to take a picture with a flip flop or because they have two restaurants. Also, valet service could be better. The valet staff were all huddled in a room inside that we had to go in search of for help. The front desk staff were wonderful and inviting. Come Monday breakfast staff were awesome. The JWB steakhouse staff and food were a pleasure. The bartenders at the landshark were great and fun to talk to. Overall a great experience and location.

Quiet in summertime..next time we will ask for a room in the back to avoid pool noise however. Good restaurants in area (a few)- amazed that people left trash near the pool area- and wasn't picked up in the morning.

I’ve been coming here since I was a kid, traveling with my folks. The place is definitely showing its age. I come back every year because it is convenient to south shore activities. But on Tues 7/1/25, I woke at 6:50am to drilling noises directly above my room. Clearly there was construction activity, which is totally understandable in an old building. But why so early in the morning? Maybe wait till 8 or even 9am when most people will be awake. I think I’ll reconsider our future stays and instead opt for newer properties on the California side of the state line. As for the casino? Well, clearly it is still the realm of the smokers. Despite the trend toward lower smoking rates in the US, smokers still rule in casinos. In Vegas, I suppose, newer ventilation systems make the smoke pollution less obnoxious. But Tahoe casinos haven’t caught up to their flashier cousins to the south. Bring extra changes of clothes if you plan on even just passing through the Harrah’s casino.

Love the townhome-style building with a personal garage. Made it very easy to bring our personal belongings in. The entire stay felt like we were in the comfort of our own home.

We came for our 15th wedding anniversary. This would be my 26th Ritz Carlton I've stayed at. For some reason the price point was doubled for the time we selected to stay. Everyone was really nice. The staff was great but I definitely have some grievance. When I checked in I let them know it was a special day for us. I'm a gold bonvoy Marriott member and I'm use to getting upgraded upon arrival. I was told the property wasn't at capacity, but would be later because of the snow. The front desk manager said they gave me an upgrade...but the room was 30 rooms away from the elevator and small. Usually at the 5 star hotels we stay at for our anniversary celebrations they have flowers, cards, candy etc .. comp'd awaiting our arrival. We didn't get anything special like that and I felt slighted. Especially paying over 2k for two nights when the prices now are 500-600 nightly (for this time last week). The thing that made me most upset was upon check in we were told by the front desk that there was a shuttle that goes into Truckee. That it was free by the hotel..... Come to find out it's one man whose the driver for the hundred of people staying at the resort. We waited over 2 hours at one point to get back to our room. It was snowing and I understand it takes time to go up and down the mountain. But seeing this is a 5 star property....you expect more than the average accommodations. The driver was great but you can tell he was overwhelmed and being pressured by the hotel to hurry up.
