Overall, Hotel Ca' Alvise was a good hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful, and we had a pleasant stay. In general, I was happy with the hotel and would recommend it for a short stay in Venice.

Our only complaint was there wasn’t ample lighting - also in two of our rooms the outlets were inoperable. The rooms were very comfortable and spacious though. It’s a quiet area in Venice that we appreciated being in after long days with lots of people. Nice little restaurants close and a water taxi stop that was never busy :)

Pros: Ideal location, building is stunning in a historically luxurious way, bathroom was huge and water pressure was superb. Cons: Room did not match any photos online when booking and was slightly disappointing compared to the photos of the example rooms. Carpeted rooms. Library and terrace bar were not open as incentivized.

The location of this hotel is ideal. We chose this hotel even with the very high per night price because it was my third stay in Venice and I knew it would be my last so I wanted the stay to be special knowing it was overpriced. Positives: Hotel room was good size, beds were comfortable and bath amenities were great. Room was quiet which makes sense since it is on the canal and a side street. Super easy access to anything you'd like to do in Venice or the islands. The vaporetto stop is one block away. Sitting on the dock or on the roof in the early evening was lovely. Breakfast was fine. Nothing out of the ordinary or memorable. The bellman and the kitchen staff were kind. Check out was easy. Negatives: We were appalled at the front desk staff behavior. The day time staff did not look up to say hello when leaving or arriving - either they were looking at their cell phone or the computer monitor. They greeted us like it was necessary. The evening front desk clerk never looked up or acknowledged us. He was on a mobile phone each evening when we arrived. No hospitality at all from this team The bellman broke a suitcase handle on check in. It was an accident & he was apologetic. We did not report this but we would expect at a hotel of this level he would have reported it & that the front desk/manager would have contacted us. Was disappointed that: the morning coffee was a coffee machine and not hand made. the hotel charges 10 euro to enjoy breakfast on the dock.

Great area, clean hotel, very charming.

The location and breakfast were excellent. The hotel could be kept a bit more clean and tidy. We visited a few similar hotels around the Grand Canal, and all were similar in price and much more cleaner, bigger and better looking. Having no elevator was a huge issue, as we had to go up and down with our luggage. There was help with a porter taking things up, but not when coming down.

Overall, Hotel Ca' Alvise was a good hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful, and we had a pleasant stay. In general, I was happy with the hotel and would recommend it for a short stay in Venice.
