What should have been an uneventful 10-hour stay turned into a surprisingly unpleasant experience because of the receptionist at checkout. Due to a change in our travel plans, we arrived in Venice very late and our original hotel was fully booked, so we made a last-minute reservation here simply to get a few hours of sleep before moving to the Gritti Palace the next morning. This hotel advertises itself as five-star, though it felt closer to a four-star property. That wasn’t really an issue—we were only there overnight. At checkout, my husband asked about a water taxi to the Gritti Palace. The receptionist quoted around €90. He politely replied that it seemed expensive, given that we’d paid less to come from the train station the day before, despite that journey being much longer. She visibly grimaced, said “How strange,” then turned to the concierge and porter and began complaining about us in Italian. I speak Italian and understood exactly what she said. She clearly hadn’t realized that, and seemed genuinely surprised when I translated her comments for my husband. Questioning a price is not an invitation to ridicule a guest. Hotel-arranged transport may cost more, but professionalism should never be optional, and I believe this is what makes this more of a lower class hotel. The room was clean, but at €500–700 per night there are countless better choices in Venice. Luxury is defined by service as much as facilities, and this property fell well short. I would not return.

Fantastic hotel! Located very conveniently to so many great spots. The family room was ideal four our family of four with two teenagers. The staff was incredibly kind and the bar was beautiful. Highly recommend
