Hotel Residence Esplanade has some definite positives, but our stay ultimately felt more average than the hotel’s presentation and location might suggest. The biggest advantage is the location. It’s very close to the beach and conveniently situated for getting to and from the train station, which made exploring Viareggio and the surrounding area easy. The breakfast buffet was also a highlight, with a good selection and a pleasant start to the day. Staff were generally helpful when we needed assistance, although the service could occasionally feel a little inconsistent. Our biggest frustration was the number of additional charges and limitations that weren’t particularly apparent upfront. Beach access is not included and comes at an additional charge, which was disappointing given how prominently the hotel’s seaside location is featured. There were also other fees that made the overall cost feel higher than expected. Some of the amenities were less convenient than we anticipated as well. Facilities such as the gym have limited operating hours, and the restaurant is not always available, so you can’t necessarily make use of everything when it suits your schedule. For a hotel offering these amenities as part of the overall experience, greater availability would have made a noticeable difference. Overall, Hotel Residence Esplanade benefits tremendously from its location, and the breakfast was very good. It’s a perfectly reasonable place to stay in Viareggio.
