(1,279 reviews) The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive with a few exceptions. The food was great with lots of options. The property is beautiful, however the rooms are in need of a reno which is apparently happening this year. The $600 credit for each room is misleading as it is in the form of coupons that can only be redeemed for certain things.The spa was a disappointment. The massage was good but overpriced. The steam room was not functioning, and there was no communication as such. The Jacuzzi was not functioning fully either. The men’s change room had no hot water in the shower and there was a painting crew in there during regular hours. The painters were also going in and out of the ladies change room at their leisure which was incredibly uncomfortable. We have not stayed at a Riu before and not sure we will again. (527 reviews) We stayed 2 nights. The people were amazing, always smiling and willing to help, and they recommended the best spots, beaches, and restaurants. The location was ok, not the greatest, far enough from the craziness of the town, but the beach they advertise nearby is not on the property. It is not beautiful either; it is full of sharp rocks and smells bad. The person they have dedicated to the guest was nice but lazy, in our opinion. The hotel itself was spotless, the accommodation was awesome, the dinner was one fo the best of the whole week we stayed in Costa Rica, the pool area was great, but because of their location and the beautiful arbories around you, you can only enjoy the sun for a couple of hours in the morning. Then there is no sun. The room décor was very stylish and minimalist. The shower was big, and there was enough lighting for makeup, etc. AC works like a champ.
