I arrived at the motel at 2:00 p.m. after driving 225 miles from Essex Junction, VT. I did the preliminaries a person does when checking into a motel. I was told the room was ready but that I would be charged an extra $20 if I entered the room before 4:00 p.m. Because I had never before paid a surcharge for taking occupancy of a room that was clean and ready to be occupied, the $20 surcharge shocked me. So I killed two hours, came back at 4:00 p.m., was given a card key for the room.
To be honest, I was so pissed off by the surcharge that I will never again book a room a motel that has a surcharge of this kind. I think nothing annoys people quite as much as much as being nickeled and dimed.
