(2,034 reviews) The hotel lobby is impressive, featuring towering bookshelves, comfortable lounge seating, and a thoughtfully curated collection of Japanese books for guests to enjoy. It is a highly Instagrammable space and creates a strong first impression. The staff are generally helpful, particularly with luggage storage before and after check-out, as well as assisting with calling a taxi to the airport. However, a more prompt and proactive welcome would enhance the overall guest experience. The rooms are indeed small and basic. While the bookshelf-themed wallpaper adds some character, the overall design could be improved, even considering the limitations of the circular architectural layout. Ventilation in the rooms could be better, and the rooms would benefit from a fresher smell. A humidifier is provided instead of the standard air purifier commonly found in many hotels. The bathroom feels cramped, and in one of the rooms there was a noticeable smell of urine and mould during showering. This may be due to the shower curtain or wall surfaces and detracts from comfort and cleanliness. In terms of location, the hotel is approximately a 10-minute walk from Hakata Station when carrying luggage, which is manageable. However, it is located on the opposite side of the station, making it about a 25-minute walk to Canal City and the Aeon Express supermarket. (138 reviews) Services of front desk staff are excellent and commendable. They are not only courteous, responsive but also very helpful. For some reasons, we need a room closer to the lift and the staff kindly arranged the room for me. As it was too early for check in, I left my luggage there and surprisingly the staff already helped me placing the luggage in room for our check in and it was only 1pm. As we departed the hotel, we asked for their help to call a taxi. The lady at front desk guided us (and carrying our luggage) to the street to call a taxi. It was patchy rain at that time. Overall, the GATE hotel excels from the room and amenities to services. We will stay at this hotel again in our next visit.
