Hispaniola Adventure Holidays

Resort was absolutely stunning—postcard-perfect w breathtaking views from every corner. Beach access was convenient, pool was clean & never had a strong chlorine smell & rooms were spotless w fresh towels provided daily. The fridge was also restocked ea day, which was a nice touch. The dinner reservation system was a bit frustrating at times, but we were able to make it work. Unfortunately, Portofino’s was a disappointment despite all the positive reviews we read. When we arrived for our reservation, the hostess seemed inconvenienced by our presence. Even after showing proof of our reservation, we were seated outside the main dining area near the kitchen, which felt more like overflow seating. MEAT, Tequila, and the Sports Bar were our top three dining experiences, & would definitely recommend them to others. Our assigned concierge, Kevin, was very attentive during the first couple of days but then seemed to disappear f the remainder of our stay. We booked one excursion & were told we’d be back in time for our dinner reservation that evening. However, we didn’t return until about 3 hours after our reservation time. We reached out to Kevin, but although he read the message, he never responded. The Saona Island excursion was phenomenal—definitely a highlight—but be prepared for a full day. We left at 7:15 a & returned at 9:15p. The daytime pool entertainment was exceptional. Wilson, Gabriel & Evelyn were absolute ROCKSTARS! The evening entertainment lacked slightly. (B-)

Best resort we have stayed at in the Caribbean - next level service. Great accommodations, amazing food, golf courses are incredible. We look forward to returning here - worth the price! Highly recommended!

Good experience, food was good, amenities and events were good, lots of entertainment, friendly staff. Room could benefit from some sound proofing. Overall maintenance is good but not great. Last two days there was no hot water; although not necessarily needed. Air conditioning is strong but noisy. In general terms, our experience was really good. I would recommend the hotel but do not expect a 5 stars experience.

The resort itself was beautiful. The rooms were somewhat dated, and the bathroom shower had no hot water so I couldn’t wash my hair during the duration of my stay because I’d only get about a minute to two of lukewarm water to be able to rinse off before dinner each night. The staff was generally kind, though there was an expectation for tips (gentleman bringing my bags to my room, stood at the door and did not leave until I took out money - unfortunately for me, the smallest bill I had was a $20). The hotel worker running the towel hut asked if I had a husband and told me that I needed a Dominican baby in me and that he wanted to come back to Canada with me. I tried to politely laugh it off and walk away. Unfortunately, this was a daily conversation any time I had to change my towel (I travelled alone so couldn’t send someone else to do the towel exchange for me). The hotel does not provide shuttle service or transportation to/from the airport. The taxi I took claimed he would offer to drive me to the hotel from the airport for $50, pulled up to a gas station and told me I could tap my credit card, and when I did, I realize he charged me $75. Again, I was alone and it was nighttime and didn’t want to cause a fuss and jeopardize my safety. The pool and beach are great, the resort is a perfect size in my opinion, ten buildings with only two floors in each. Not too large. Plenty of restaurant and food options. The watersides on site are a fun added bonus.
