"The hotel is lovely but some updating on guest service access and information is needed. QR code not working to look up amenities/services and some information is inaccurate, i.e. the location of laundry services. But location is awesome and the room was spacious. Loved having bath robes :)"

"Well situated and appointed family resort, set in lush gardens with restaurants within the complex. As an older couple travelling without a car we left the pools to the very happy families using them. However we could walk to the stunning Botanic Gardens and use the bus to travel into the city for the wonderful Kuranda Rail trip and walks along the Esplanade. The resort makes a good base, the staff are all lovely and rooms are serviced daily."

"Nice hotel, not the best location, especially having to walk past the hospital at night. Would have been nice to have the bar open after 10pm in the evening. Staff were attentive to maintenance issues raised and were keen to offer compensation in the form of free services."

"We absolutely loved our stay at the Hilton Cairns. Perfect location. We stayed on the 8th floor we water views, which gave us access to a seperate room offering a small Buffet breakfast every morning and canapés, beer and wine in the evening. Absolutely loved this option as the dinning room downstairs is full and the food, drinks and a Harpist on the Saturday was a lovely touch. Comfy bed was a big bonus too."

"The bathrooms could be modernised however in saying that the rooms were wonderful and clean, well equipped. The staff were always friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We had a clean and refresh of towels and cleaning products like laundry powder and dishwashing liquid midway through our stay (despite only staying 6 days) which was extremely helpful and nice. The hotel itself is situated in a great location; walking distance to the pier, night markets, lagoon, casino, countless restaurants and shops."

Frequently asked questions

Which area of Wooroonooran is best to stay in for cheap hotels?
For budget-conscious solo travellers exploring Wooroonooran, seeking cheap hotels might be less about specific neighbourhoods within the park and more about strategic locations just outside its boundaries. The Wooroonooran National Park is primarily a natural area, and accommodation options are generally limited to eco-lodges or more upscale resorts within its confines. Therefore, for truly affordable stays, consider towns like Innisfail or Babinda, which are situated conveniently close to the park's main attractions.Innisfail, located to the north-east of the park, offers a range of budget motels and guesthouses. It's a larger town with more amenities, including supermarkets and local eateries, where solo travellers can find inexpensive meals. From Innisfail, you can easily access attractions like the Mamu Tropical Skywalk or the Josephine Falls, which are ideal for a day trip. The town itself has a relaxed atmosphere and is a good base for exploring the surrounding natural beauty.Babinda, a smaller, quieter town to the north-west, provides a more intimate and local experience. Here, you'll find a few older motels and guesthouses that are often cheaper than those in larger tourist hubs. Babinda is famous for the Babinda Boulders, a popular swimming spot, and is a convenient starting point for exploring the rainforest trails. For solo travellers, the smaller size of Babinda can feel more welcoming, and the local pubs often offer affordable meals and a chance to chat with locals.

When is the most affordable time to visit Wooroonooran?
The most affordable time to visit Wooroonooran, Queensland, Australia, is generally during the wet season, which runs from November to April. During this period, you'll find lower prices on accommodation and flights due to fewer tourists. While the wet season brings higher humidity and more frequent rainfall, particularly in the afternoons, it also transforms the landscape into a lush, vibrant green. Waterfalls are at their most spectacular, and the rainforest truly comes alive. For solo travellers, this quieter period can offer a more tranquil experience, with fewer crowds at popular spots like the Millaa Millaa Falls or the Josephine Falls. You might even find better deals on local tours, such as those exploring the ancient Daintree Rainforest, which can be a fantastic way to experience the area's natural beauty without the peak season price tag.Families might also find value in visiting during the shoulder months of May and October, just outside the busiest dry season. While not as cheap as the height of the wet season, prices are still more manageable than in June, July, and August, and the weather is typically more predictable with less intense humidity.

While Wooroonooran is generally considered more expensive than some other destinations, travellers can absolutely experience its natural wonders on a budget with some smart planning. For accommodation, consider staying in nearby towns like Innisfail or Babinda, which offer more affordable options than lodges situated directly within the park. These towns are excellent bases for exploring the area and provide a range of guesthouses and caravan parks, suitable for solo travellers or couples.Solo travellers and couples can save on activities as many of Wooroonooran's main attractions are free. Enjoy invigorating walks through the rainforest, swim in natural swimming holes like the Boulders at Babinda, or marvel at the majestic Josephine Falls.
