About this property
Lake District Windermere Retreat with Lake Views
The Retreat: Detached Luxury & Fireside Comfort Step into your completely detached, private Lakeland retreat. Recently refurbished with high-quality interiors, the cottage balances modern elegance with a classic, welcoming feel. Every detail has been chosen with comfort in mind. After a crisp day walking the shores or exploring the mountains, draw a deep soak in the roll-top bath to unwind. Afterwards, wrap up in a fluffy towel, pour a glass of wine, and settle into the comfortable sofas beside the wood burner.
Overlooking Lake Windermere & The Coniston Mountains Enjoy lovely, elevated views of England’s largest lake from the comfort of the cottage. Positioned in the exclusive, quiet and leafy Storrs Park, the property looks down to Windermere's waters, framed by the distinctive peaks of the Coniston mountains in the distance. Step out onto the balcony with your morning coffee to take in the fresh air and watch the early mists clear, or simply watch the sun drop behind the mountains at dusk.
Reaching the Marina & Ferry Nab Getting down to the water is part of the experience. A pleasant walk takes about 30 minutes (1.5 miles) to reach the local marina and Ferry Nab, or it is a quick 3 to 4-minute drive. The marina is a lovely spot to admire the moored yachts, whilst Ferry Nab is where you can catch the car ferry straight across Lake Windermere. This floating bridge is the most scenic and direct route to visit Beatrix Potter’s famous 17th-century Lakeland home, Hill Top.
Bowness Village, Boating & Lake Cruises You are perfectly placed on the quieter eastern shores of the lake, offering a peaceful setting that remains highly accessible. The heart of Bowness village, featuring a multitude of restaurants, shops, and watersports, is approximately 1.8 miles away (a 5-minute drive or a 35 to 40-minute walk). Head down to Bowness Bay in the village centre to hire your own electric boat for a few hours. Paddle boarding or kayaking is also a popular activity on the lake and can be hired close-by. If you prefer to let someone else do the navigating, board one of the traditional cruises from the pier up to Ambleside, or cruise across to Lakeside to enjoy a day at The Aquarium or hop on the steam train to Haverthwaite.
Storrs Park & Cultured Living Just down the road from the property is Storrs Hall, a handsome Grade II listed Georgian mansion ideal for a traditional afternoon tea on the lawns. Just a stroll away from the cottage is Blackwell, The Arts & Crafts House, a striking architectural property by M.H. Baillie Scott, featuring beautifully kept gardens and intricate wooden interiors.
Great Food & Cosy Pubs There is excellent food to be found just minutes from your door, placing you at the heart of Cumbria's thriving restaurant scene. Book a table for superb seasonal fine dining at nearby acclaimed spots like Simon Rogan's Henrock or Gilpin Spice. For a more relaxed evening out, head to well-regarded local pubs like The Brown Horse in Winster or The Queens Head in Troutbeck. Enjoy hearty Cumbrian dishes, local ales, and a welcoming atmosphere before returning to the quiet of the cottage.
Beautiful Surrounds: Viewpoints & Trails When you are ready to explore beyond the shoreline, some of the Lake District's most beloved walks are just a short drive away. Family-friendly routes like Orrest Head in Windermere or Gummer’s How to the south offer highly rewarding, spectacular views over Lake Windermere for relatively little climbing. For alternative outdoor activities, try local attractions such as a tree top trek, mountain biking or clay pigeon shooting.
Further Afield If you wish to go a little further, Ambleside is only a 15-minute drive away, whilst scenic 25-minute drive north takes you to the 'Alpine' like village of Grasmere. Here, you can visit Dove Cottage, Wordsworth’s home where he wrote some of his greatest poetry. Ensure you make a visit to the legendary Grasmere Gingerbread shop. For nature lovers, amongst the varied wildlife in the Lake District why not spend an afternoon spotting red squirrels, the Lake District being one England’s best locations to see them thanks to local conservation work.
Located in Windermere, this cottage is on a lake. Blackwell, The Arts & Crafts House and Claife Viewing Station and Windermere West Shore are local landmarks, and some of the area's activities can be experienced at Windermere Ferry and Windermere Golf Club.
