Check in was accomplished swiftly but with no pleasantries. The room was scruffy - it looked as though a dog had scrabbled at the base of one of the beds - the fabric was torn on all four corners. There was a leak in the bathroom next to the toilet which looked as though it had been there some while - after using the toilet, liquid oozed up through the tiling on the floor (we only noticed it in the morning and reported it to reception, who gave us a reduction on the room rate). During the evening, we asked if we could have a second chair in the room, as we both wished to use the desk, and were first told they didn't have any and then that it was against fire regulations! We have stayed in hotels worldwide and this was obviously a very stupid lie but we were too tired to argue. We stayed the following night at Mercure hotels in Wetherby and York, which were substantially cheaper and very much better. This Leeds hotel was extremely poor value.
