The region Set in the foothills of the Brendon Hills on the southern slope of Croydon Hill, Luxborough enjoys a peaceful and beautiful setting. Luxborough is a small village that is divided into the hamlets of Churchtown, Kingsbridge and Pooltown, which all lie within a mile of each other. In years gone by people came to the Luxborough area to mine iron ore and it was sent via the West Somerset Mineral Railway to Watchet on the coastline. In the 19th century the school was reported to have 200 pupils from the village and the iron mines in the Brendon Hills. The ancient Church of St Mary in Churchtown is believed to date from Norman times, or some believe it may be Saxon times due to a Cross in the Churchyard. Today, St Mary's is a Grade II listed building. Roadwater is situated 4 miles to the east and the popular village of Dunster is 4.5 miles to the north. Roadwater has a local shop, post office, village hall and an Inn and is situated approximately 4 miles from Williton, which has a larger range of shops providing for day to day needs. Bridleways and footpaths crisscross near and through Luxborough, including the famous Coleridge Way which passes through the village. Local amenities Mill Cottage is situated on the outskirts of the pretty village of Luxborough. The Royal Oak Inn serves drinks and good food, approx 1 mile away. Wheddon Cross (approx 5 miles) has a newly refurbished mini-supermarket with Post Office facilities and a petrol station with good opening times. Roadwater is also has a local shop and pub which serves food. Dunster is also approx 4 miles, but in the other direction, this wonderful medieval village is really worth a visit, it has lots of shops, restaurants, tea rooms and a village shop. Minehead is the nearest town, approximately 7 miles away. Here you will find the larger supermarkets and petrol stations (Tesco and Morrisons are both situated on the outskirts of the town and have long opening hours), most major high street banks with cash machines, plus a range of other shops throughout the town. Tesco, Sainsbury's, Waitrose as well as Cook from Taunton will deliver to the property.Security Deposit Information A £60.00 security deposit is required. This will be added to the total price of your booking, and will be refunded after your stay unless the owner discovers damage to the property or its contents after your departure. ## Property amenities ### Internet - Available in the cottage: WiFi ### Parking and transport - Parking on site ### Food and drink - Dishwasher - Microwave - Oven ### Bedrooms - 3 bedrooms - Bedsheets provided ### Bathroom - 3 bathrooms - Towels provided ### Living spaces - Fireplace ### Entertainment - TV ### Outdoor areas - Barbecue grill - Garden ### Laundry - Laundry facilities - Washing machine ### Pets - Pet friendly ### Suitability/Accessibility - Smoke-free property ### Services and conveniences - Iron/ironing board ### Location highlights - In a rural location ### Safety features - Carbon monoxide detector not reported (host has not indicated whether there is a carbon monoxide detector on the property; consider bringing a portable detector) - Smoke detector not reported (host has not indicated whether there is a smoke detector on the property) ### General - Garden ## Similar properties ![Exterior](https://images.trvl-media.com/lodging/81000000/80790000/80787500/80787495/b3d4693c.jpg?impolicy=fcrop&w=469&h=201&p=1&q=medium) ### Valley Cottage Withypool - Kitchen - Washer - Dryer - Pet-friendly 9.2 Wonderful 15 reviews [](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Hotel-Search?startDate=2025-10-25&endDate=2025-10-26&selected=80787495&PinnedHotelID=80787495&HadPinnedHotel=true®ionId=-1&adults=2) ![Outdoor dining](https://images.trvl-media.com/lodging/22000000/22000000/21998000/21997980/282984f7.jpg?impolicy=fcrop&w=469&h=201&p=1&q=medium) ### Jacobs Pond, Monksilver Monksilver - Washer - Dryer - Outdoor space - Parking available 10 Exceptional 36 reviews [](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Hotel-Search?startDate=2025-10-25&endDate=2025-10-26&selected=21997980&PinnedHotelID=21997980&HadPinnedHotel=true®ionId=-1&adults=2) ![Exterior](https://images.trvl-media.com/lodging/92000000/91150000/91145200/91145157/029f2db6.jpg?impolicy=fcrop&w=469&h=201&p=1&q=medium) ### Red Deer Cottage, Wheddon Cross Wheddon Cross - Kitchen - Washer - Dryer - Pet-friendly 10 Exceptional 3 reviews [](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Hotel-Search?startDate=2025-10-25&endDate=2025-10-26&selected=91145157&PinnedHotelID=91145157&HadPinnedHotel=true®ionId=-1&adults=2) ![Exterior](https://images.trvl-media.com/lodging/22000000/21990000/21982900/21982881/fead9f9e.jpg?impolicy=fcrop&w=469&h=201&p=1&q=medium) ### The Granary, Luxborough Luxborough - Washer - Dryer - Outdoor space - Parking available 9.6 Exceptional 22 reviews [](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Hotel-Search?startDate=2025-10-25&endDate=2025-10-26&selected=21982881&PinnedHotelID=21982881&HadPinnedHotel=true®ionId=-1&adults=2) ![Fridge, microwave, oven, dishwasher](https://images.trvl-media.com/lodging/101000000/100040000/100031300/100031208/25ffcf78.jpg?impolicy=fcrop&w=469&h=201&p=1&q=medium) ### The Wool Barn, Simonsbath Exford - Kitchen - Washer - Dryer - Pet-friendly 10 Exceptional 1 review [](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Hotel-Search?startDate=2025-10-25&endDate=2025-10-26&selected=100031208&PinnedHotelID=100031208&HadPinnedHotel=true®ionId=-1&adults=2) ![3 bedrooms, iron/ironing board, WiFi](https://images.trvl-media.com/lodging/109000000/108970000/108964600/108964539/adef97d9.jpg?impolicy=fcrop&w=469&h=201&p=1&q=medium) ### Butterfly Cottage - Luxury Cottages Minehead - Kitchen - Washer - Dryer - Pet-friendly [](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Hotel-Search?startDate=2025-10-25&endDate=2025-10-26&selected=108964539&PinnedHotelID=108964539&HadPinnedHotel=true®ionId=-1&adults=2) ![Dining](https://images.trvl-media.com/lodging/30000000/29630000/29629900/29629888/09796892.jpg?impolicy=fcrop&w=469&h=201&p=1&q=medium) ### West Huckham Barn, near Wheddon Cross Dulverton - Washer - Dryer - Pet-friendly - Outdoor space 9.6 Exceptional 30 reviews [](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Hotel-Search?startDate=2025-10-25&endDate=2025-10-26&selected=29629888&PinnedHotelID=29629888&HadPinnedHotel=true®ionId=-1&adults=2) ![Outdoor dining](https://images.trvl-media.com/lodging/40000000/39070000/39070000/39069907/a45263c1.jpg?impolicy=fcrop&w=469&h=201&p=1&q=medium) ### On the edge of Exmoor National Park with wide country views. Location is perfect for exploring Exmoor but also travelling to the coast. You do have to navigate single lane country roads to get there which are a bit nervy for city drivers! But worth it for the views and peacefulness. The house was clean and well equipped but bring toilet roll. The showers were great, nice pressure and temperature. The weather was glorious for our stay so every meal was enjoyed in the beautiful garden. Would definitely recommend! ##### Lorna C. There was a Shetland pony in the adjoining field that could be approached and stroked - great for the children. The property is set into the hill and having the bedroom downstairs made them deliciously cool despite being 30+ degrees outside. The local pub is just over a mile away and can be reached across the fields - hills are involved but the food and drink are worth the effort. It is the setting and the quiet I will miss most of all. ##### Colin P. We holidayed there Mill Cottage is one of the best, if not the best holiday home we have stayed in. We holidayed there in July with our daughter, son in law, their two daughters (12 and 14) and the dog. The accommodation and location were just perfect for us. We were fortunate with the weather and we could get out to run, walk and visit favourite haunts (my husband was born in the area and our daughter has fond childhood memories of this part of the country) The cottage was very well equipped particularly the kitchen, which had very good quality utensils and pans etc. unlike many holiday cottages. The garden was perfect for the dog to run around in and we all loved the stream. It was evident a lot of thought had been put into furnishing and equipping the cottage. Annette was very helpful and we knew where she was if we wanted to see her, but we had exactly the right degree of privacy. As we love the area, it is very likely we will book Mill cottage again. Thanks for a lovely holiday. ##### Rosemary L. The cottage was very comfortable and had everything you would need. Can't wait to come back to explore the area more and enjoy the beautiful outdoor area. ##### Lauren B.
