The room was big and the bed comfy, with the staff friendly, however having just reopened it is in need of some work. One wall mounted socket (head height) for a TV coffee machine and a kettle, with the kettle cord not reaching the plug was not good. The amenities were lacking in the shower, and there was rust on the frame holding the wash hand basin in the bathroom. All of which was disappointing. Also £20 for breakfast was a bit steep!
Absolutely stunning hotel (a former school), set in acres of countryside
Rooms are good sized, well equipped, and the en-suites are great.
Staff are very helpful and polite
One point - cooked breakfasts on my 2x mornings did take a while (40-45 minutes) - so just leave yourself enough time, just in case
Overall, I'll definitely go back
Booked here mainly for the air conditioning ..30+ degrees at the moment. Upon check in we were informed that the air con was broken in our room. They had put a fan in the room so went to see. It was like an oven so politely declined. We were offered an upgrade, but was asked if we were willing to pay the difference ourselves. I once again politey declined as it wasn't my fault the system had failed. We were put into the upgraded room with working air con....lovely however, the dirt on the windows was shocking. Lovely big windows but absolutely covered in cobwebs and dead flies, obv not been cleaned in a long time. We were just grateful for air con. The hotel itself is lovely and full of history.

The hotel was advertised as pet friendly on Expedia, charging £20 per stay for a dog. I was surprised to be messaged by the management a week before my stay (even though I've booked 3 weeks prior) informing me that I will be charged £30 per night for my dog.
I'm glad to say they did honour the advert content and charged me £20 in the end.
Another thing is: even though I've pre paid when I booked when I arrived they had problems retrieving my payment (via Expedia) and I was asked to come to the reception to show a proof of me paying. I haven't seen anyone else being treated like that and sadly I felt this might be due to fact that I am foreign in UK.
The grounds are absolutely beautiful, as is the building. The room was small but clean and had a good bathroom. The bar staff was friendly and helpful.
