We had a two bedroom - just a note that it is a bit of a walk from the main hotel area down the road, so if anyone has mobility issues they should be aware of that. The staff were really lovely and accommodating and offered us early check in as we arrived on the bus from Voss with all of the other tourists and I had a cranky 3 year old. The breakfast was excellent - lots of variety and fresh food. We enjoyed visiting the Viking Valley - which I don’t think is affiliated with the hotel but the restaurants are owned by the same people. Lovely views, lovely room (a bit cold to start but heated up once we were there for awhile and had the heaters going) - and it was magical waking up to the frosty mountain air with that view. There is no road access so we rented a boat—the only way to get here—through Vik Adventures and the journey itself was part of the adventure, a scenic 25 to 45-minute ride on the fjord from Vikøyri, depending on conditions.The home itself is a quiet, rustic retreat with some modern updates, preserved to maintain its historical features as part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The scenery is absolutely stunning, with enormous waterfalls serving as a backdrop. We spent our time exploring the area, hiking to the top of the mountain where the waterfalls begin, and enjoying the wild berries. We boated to Balestrand for dinner one night. Every evening, we'd sit on the dock listening to the sounds of the falls. This is a perfect escape for anyone looking for an authentic, off-the-beaten-path experience.
