The best area to stay in Valluerca is the Old Town, known locally as "Casco Viejo," especially around the Plaza Mayor.

This area is the historical and cultural heart of Valluerca. It's a pedestrian-friendly district with narrow, winding streets, historic buildings, and a great selection of traditional pintxos bars and restaurants. The Plaza Mayor itself is a beautiful open space often bustling with local life, surrounded by arcaded buildings.

Couples will find the Old Town particularly appealing. It's superb for romantic strolls, enjoying evening meals, and discovering hidden courtyards. The proximity to landmarks like the Valluerca Cathedral and the Guggenheim Museum offers plenty of cultural activities, all within walking distance.

For travellers who appreciate a quieter setting but still want good access to the city, the Ensanche district, just south of the Old Town, is an excellent option. This area is characterised by its wider boulevards and elegant 19th-century architecture. It offers a more relaxed pace with upscale boutiques and fine dining establishments.

The Ensanche is ideal for those who prefer modern conveniences and a more refined experience. Many hotels in this area offer amenities like high-end fitness equipment and concierge services.

The best time to go to Valluerca is during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months, when the weather is pleasant for exploring.

During these periods, you'll find the temperatures mild, typically ranging from 15°C to 25°C, which is ideal for hiking in the nearby Gorbeia Natural Park or strolling through the local markets. These seasons also avoid the peak summer crowds and the cooler, wetter winter months, ensuring a more relaxed experience.

Couples looking for a romantic escape will appreciate the spring and autumn for the opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities like picnics by the river or wine tasting in the surrounding vineyards without the intense summer heat. The natural beauty of the Basque Country is particularly striking during these times, with lush greenery in spring and rich colours in autumn.

For solo travellers, these shoulder seasons offer a wonderful balance of good weather and fewer tourists, allowing for a more authentic experience when visiting historical sites or enjoying the local cuisine.
