About this property
Family Friendly Tahoe Donner Retreat
Our Tahoe Donner retreat has 3 bedrooms upstairs and family/bunkroom downstairs. It can comfortably sleep 8 people (kids under 13 not included - max 11 guests total). There is 3 full bathrooms.
In the summer, the backyard is a park-like setting with outdoor deck, shaded picnic table and lawn. In the winter, this becomes a great snowplay area!
New for 2024- we have installed an air conditioning unit in the living room for the occasional hot summer day.
After a day out enjoying the beautiful outdoor Tahoe summer or winter, relax in the hot tub on the deck. The kitchen with large center island provides a gathering area while cooking together. The dining table can seat 10 for a nice meal. We love the family movie nights on the 85 inch TV screen in the great room. There are large screen TVs in the master and downstairs bunkroom.
Our house is convenient is convenient to Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, and Northstar ski resorts and the quaint downtown of Truckee with many restaurants and shops. Truckee River bike path allows for 6.8 miles of walking/riding from Squaw Valley to Tahoe City. The Truckee River Legacy Trail is a 2.5 mile flat walking/biking trail located at Truckee River Regional Park.
The property is part of the Tahoe-Donner Homeowners Association. Guests (check website for current fees) will have access to the private community pool and spa, tennis courts and the clubhouse amenities and dining, golf at a discounted rate and a private beach and boating marina at Donner Lake. Additionally, Tahoe Donner is home to many other community activities including horse back riding, cross country skiing, downhill skiing, sledding and hiking.
Please note that the driveway is graded. A snow removal service plows the driveway in the winter but if there is snowfall, then chains and/or 4 wheel drive may be required. Ease of travel in the mountains is very much weather dependent in the winter. Homeowner is not liable for difficult driving situations or Tahoe Donner power outages as a result of storm conditions.

House is awesome and fully equipped! Very spacious and well-designed. Perfect for two families with to stay together. Loved the deck, lawn and hot tub too. We only wished there were lounge chairs for the deck and an iron but other than that house was really well-equipped and the owners were great about responding to a couple hiccups with the hot tub . We would definitely love to rent again in the winter! Thank you!!
Only thing missing this year was snow and the hot tub...but our three families had a great time hiking, playing games, watching movies, ice skating....Great place for our family gathering.
Possible the best vacation house we’ve ever rented. Open, bright, airy, cozy, well appointed. Backyard is great for hanging out and for the kids, and is a rare amenity for Tahoe homes. Can’t recommend highly enough.
Christina, polace was amazing, great location, quiet and great rooms. Bonus bedroom downstairs with full bathroom was a hugh plus with daughters family with multiple kids (bunk bed and pull out coach). We will be back!!!
Great location!!! The back patio/grass area was wonderful for the kids to play! The layout of the house was perfect! Plenty of room to have a family gathering. The seating for meals was very accommodating for all! Kitchen handled lots is cooks! But I do have to say the kitchen needed a major clean! The oven, some of the cooking pans were in need of cleaning or replacing. The oven did not heat very well. Also the towels looked well used.
I would definitely stay here again if the cleaning crew did a better job
We have returned for a second time to this spacious, beautiful home. Happily, AC has been added in the Great room. It came in handy during our stay. My family and I will back!
Our family really enjoyed this beautiful home. The kids went sledding in the backyard and we soaked in the hot tub every night. We would definitely recommend it and would stay here again.
This house was perfect for a family of 5. Two 15 year olds and a 12 year old. Very comfortable lay out with everything that we needed. House came nicely outfitted with everything we needed, shampoo, beach gear, etc.
Location is tucked nicely into the woods with a VERY nice backyard hang out area. Private and large,.
All around very pleased with the property!
Stayed here 3 years ago and loved it. Returned this year and it was an even better experience. The house has everything! We had great meals in the gourmet kitchen, walks on the trails, easy sleeping in the many beds, and relaxing time in the hot tub. The large garage and ping pong table was a hit. Hours were spent playing ping pong as a family in the evening. The grass area in the back is a unique benefit to this home. Sitting on a blanket in the grass in the shade was a nice way to spend some evening time. Even our little dog enjoyed the grass. Since our last stay, the property has added an air conditioner in the family room which came in clutch. It really helps to keep the main living area cool. We will definitely return again.
We had a fantastic time staying at Christina's place and it perfectly accommodated two families with two kids each (age range 2-7). Our group grilled almost every night so the deck dining + grill set up was just perfect, and the kitchen is really nice as well if your group will be cooking. Everything was really as-advertised, and having the yard where kids could play within sight of parents prepping meals was a major plus. Highly recommend this place :) I saw another review comment on bringing a fan and appreciated that heads up -- it was really hot during our Tahoe trip and if you're planning a trip at a similar time, I'd recommend bringing along a good fan to help cool the bigger rooms down; worked perfectly for us.
This beautiful home was very accommodating for our family (6 adults and 5 children). We loved the sleeping arrangements and huge kitchen, where all of us were able to eat meals and play games at the large kitchen table. Be prepared for an over-heated kitchen and living room in the hot summer months as there is no AC. Even 3 fans in these rooms could not lower the high temp! Thank goodness all the bedrooms stayed cool.
The house has a great layout and ended up being really perfect for our family weekend away. The open floor plan main room is so bright and comfortable, and was great to spend hours hanging out in. The teenager loved having her own space downstairs and everyone enjoyed the hot tub and sledding in the backyard. Christina was an excellent communicator, reaching out to give us a heads up on a big storm headed our way and advice on what to do, as well as on how to figure out the washer/dryer when our littlest one got sick in the night. The only thing I would change is to either fix the baby gate or remove it from the listing, since it wasn’t a safe barrier for our toddler in its current condition. And just a heads up that we did get both cars stuck in the driveway when we first arrived despite the fact that they are both 4-wheel drive, so be careful ; )
Our group had a fabulous time staying at Christina's home! She was so easy to communicate with, and the home was spacious and fun for play time in the snow! The radiant heating kept the home nice and warm; the spacious garage fit our 3 cars and made it easy to put on chains; there was lots of space to play in the snow on the side of the house and in the backyard - including sledding on the hill with the transmission lines! We enjoyed the hot tub and the spacious living room for movie night. The house was well-provisioned. The only note of caution would be for people who are worried about shoveling snow. When we arrived, we climbed the front staircase full of snow to get to the front door - constantly falling into 3 feet of snow - we thought it was funny and fun, but not everyone would. And the driveway is long, and one day the snow plow service didn't come and it took us 1.5 hours for 8 people to shovel the whole thing, and the next day the snow plow only did 2/3 of the driveway and it took us half an hour for 5 people to shovel it to get out. We were fine, but I was glad I was traveling with young, strong kids and not elders! Overall, a fabulous stay and we'd love to stay there again!
Weisshorn retreat was a fantastic property. Spacious and beautiful, it held our group of 11 people nicely. The kitchen was well appointed and we enjoyed breakfast at the island as well as outdoors on the patio. The back area is one of the best features. Beautiful grass, deck, hot tub, and eating area. We spent afternoons lounging on a blanket in the cool grass shaded by the large trees. Idyllic. Bedrooms were well appointed with good linens and the bathrooms were clean and beautiful.
There is very little that is negative about this place, but I will say that it does not have air conditioning which made the inside a little warm in the afternoon and evenings. Normally not a problem for us in Truckee, but getting a good airflow to cool at night seems problematic. There are no ceiling fans apart from one in the downstairs bedroom. Most of the bedrooms are upstairs and since the heat rises, the upstairs gets pretty warm. I went out and bought a 20" box fan to circulate air, which worked well. Everyone was able to sleep and the home did cool off in the night, but it would benefit from ceiling fans upstairs.
Overall, though, this doesn't detract much from our overall impressions. It's a marvelous place and we will definitely make this a favorite and stay there again!
We had a great trip, the Bryant’s home was perfect for our family. It was everything we wanted and expected. At times we would forget about what day and time it was, which was a good thing. The house was very spacious, all the kitchen necessities were present and the highend kitchen appliances were a plus. Before our day adventures, the backyard was the highlight, the beautiful grass surrounded by tall pine trees, the hot tub was great after a long days, easy access to a local walking trail, our pups loved it as well as us. Truckee is great town, a lot of shops, markets and food around to choose from, but we cooked majority of the time. We wouldn’t hesitate one bit to stay here again. Thank you to the Bryant family for creating this beautiful home. As always, we did our best to leave the home as we found it or better.
overall a great place and experience with a few initial snags
The house itself is beautiful and had plenty of space for us (family of 4 plus grandparents). It is in a quiet area of Tahoe Donner and the backyard / deck is a great area to lounge and enjoy some outdoor meals. There is a nice picnic table and gas grill that we used quite a bit. The house is more spacious and nice than I think the pictures do justice. Huge garage that they let us use which was super helpful.
We did have a few initial snags....such as the house not being cleaned all that well (trash bag left at the door and countertops and tables all needed to be cleaned and wiped by us). The kitchen is fantastic with modern appliances but the oven doesn't really work (due to it not sealing all the way and letting 1/2 of the hot air out). I spoke to the host about the oven and she says that a repair person has been out and says its fine......but I can tell you its not.
Overall, the hosts were very responsive to our questions and very nice people. We were a little frustrated at first with the oven and initial cleaning but the place really did work out well. I hope they get the oven worked out and would definitely stay here again if that is the case.
We loved the location of the house and the sledding right out the back for the kids. There was a ton of space and perfect for a getaway with adventures right out the back door. We were quite happy without having to leave the house! They also had a lot of winter and indoor toys that the kids LOVED. Overall, the house appeared clean but by the end of our first day there our socks were quite dirty just from walking around the house. And our children's knees were equally dirty from playing. Our clothes also picked up a lot of dog hair just from being in the house which wasn't a major problem but if you have allergies could be an issue.
Awesome home with plenty of room and all the amenities. Very accommodating, great for adults and children. Beautiful views, nice location (easy drive to downtown, skiing, Donner Lake, etc). Lots of space in the back yard. Very friendly owners. Would stay here again.
This was our first time to Lake Tahoe and several of our kids first time in snow. The house provided an amazing experience...large open backyard with plenty of snows, hills, and beautiful views!
