Host denied the bed bugs, even after having seen them on the mattress. Host Iffered to vacuum them up, did not understand the severity of bed bugs infestation & that property needs to be professionally disinfected. The location was perfect, being close to a beautiful beach, village shops and a nice walk to the city center not far away. It was also close to the train station, which took about 15 minutes to walk to. The apartment was advertised as sleeping 3 with a king sized bed in the bedroom and a twin bed in the common room. The twin bed was extremely uncomfortable with springs inside the mattress being felt through the top when lying on it. This made for a very uncomfortable night's sleep. Communicating with the proprietor was difficult as he did not speak any English. His colleague who did speak English was difficult to reach. Several times I visited the CalabriaGo office and it was always closed. I made a huge mistake by thinking that we were staying on the last day of our reservation instead of checking out. The proprietor was extremely upset (understandably so) and when I called him he screamed at me on the phone. I had been on a boat in the sea and was not able to return promptly to the apartment to move out of it. I asked to stay another night. In order to do this I had to pay for a cleaning fee, accommodations for the guests who were supposed to check in after me and a fee for the proprietor's inconvience (380 euro). Aside from ruining our last day in Tropea, the stay was quite lovely.
