Find hotels in Tiwai Point from £44

The best time to visit Tiwai Point is during the summer months, from November to April, for optimal weather and wildlife viewing.

During this period, the weather is generally warmer and more settled, making it ideal for exploring the area. You'll find the widest array of birds, including various seabirds, and the chance to spot Hector's dolphins playing in the Foveaux Strait is higher. The longer daylight hours also allow for more time to enjoy the natural surroundings.

For those interested in birdwatching, especially to see the unique population of Little Blue Penguins, late spring to early autumn (November to March) is particularly good. The penguins are more active during these months as they return to their burrows at dusk.

Families will find the summer months most convenient due to school holidays and the pleasant conditions for outdoor activities.
