Kinglake National Park – One of the largest national parks in the Melbourne area, Kinglake is dominated by a huge eucalyptus forest which surrounds the small town of Kinglake. Located on the slopes of the Great Dividing Range, the park offers great opportunities for hiking and biking as well as spectacular views of the surrounding area.
Healesville – The pretty town of Healesville offers easy access to the Lower Yarra Valley, with many of the region’s best wineries just a stone’s throw from the town. Explore Healesville’s famous wildlife sanctuary or hire a bike and explore the picturesque loop that leads to Coldstream and Yarra Glen.
Yarra Glen – Surrounded by vineyards and home to some of the best restaurants in the region, Yarra Glen is the perfect destination for an indulgent meal out or afternoon of wine tasting. To see the area from a different point of view, join one of the many hot air balloon trips that depart from just outside the town.
Yarra Ranges National Park – This verdant national park is well worth a visit during your time in the area. Its highest point, Mt Donna Buang, is snow capped in winter and toboggans are available for hire for those who want to make the most of the wintery weather. The park also boasts its very own skywalk that takes visitors high into the rainforest canopy.
Visit the Yarra Valley’s vineyards to see the agriculture and production that the region is famous for, head to the Yarra Ranges National Park to see Mt Donna Buang or to walk the forest canopy or take a ride on the Puffing Billy Steam Railway and see Australia’s oldest steam route in action.
