You will also find a market square where traders sell local crafts, including baskets and ceramics. With a number of temples dating back hundreds of years, Old Pokhara is a genuine step back in time.
Phewa Lake — The crystal clear and calm waters reflect the chattering forests and towering white peaks that surround them: there are few more beautiful spots in Nepal than Phewa Lake. It is an absolute must for anyone in search of transcendental landscapes. But, why settle for simple looking, when you can hire a boat and take to the waters to fully immerse yourself in one of the world’s natural wonders.
Begnas Lake — This quiet, restful spot offers a calming atmosphere around its lake. Consider walking out to Begnas Lake from Pokhara along the road, where you will see traditional life at play, and get a real sense of life in the mountains.
Rupa Lake — A must for any nature lover with the appetite to truly get away from it all. Rupa Lake isn’t as accessible as the other lakes in the area, but the effort it takes to get there is richly rewarded by its unspoilt scenery and restful serenity.

Whilst there is plenty to see around Pokhara, the town itself does offer a couple of interesting museums worth checking out if you want to know a little more about the history and culture of the place. The International Mountain Museum documents the area’s highest peaks and most famous expeditions, whilst the Gurkha Memorial Museum offers an insight into Nepal’s famous soldiers.

Pokhara is an adventure sports paradise. If you are in Nepal to trek the mountains, the options are endless, in terms of challenge, duration, and even scenery. There are also countless boating options, whether you want to take to the calm waters of a lake in a rowboat, or don your hard-hat and hit the white-waters in a kayak. Motorcycling and mountain biking are also very popular past-times. But perhaps Pokhara’s biggest draw are its yoga retreats, some of which combine yoga with trekking, and offer massage and reiki. All of which makes Pokhara is the perfect place to both put your body through its paces, and then piece it back together again!
