The man who checked us in ( I guess the manager) seemed quite unhelpful. Breakfast wasn’t being served because he said covd rules made things too difficult ( I had paid for room only to be fair) but his manner was indignant and unfriendly as though we should have known and had annoyed him just by asking about breakfast. They were however still managing to serve an evening meal that he went to great pains to explain could only be ordered up to 8 pm ( we arrived at 7 pm) he made this point several times as if to say “so hurry up”. After a long journey I felt like I could do with a nice cup of tea but we were informed the “ machine” wasn’t working. I’m not sure what they meant by “ machine” but I’m sure it would have been easy enough to flick a kettle in the kitchen if they were bothered. The room we ate in was most unatmospheric and felt cold, unwelcoming and like a school canteen. The worst part was the bed, which was the size of a small double ( my husband is a big man) there was no comfort to this bed, my husband sat on the mattress and it completely flattened to the bed. So after an average evening meal, a terrible nights sleep and no breakfast we decided to check out and spend the next night else where. It’s a shame because we had stayed the previous year and had a very pleasant stay. It was as if we were putting them out.
