Should you, by some misfortune, find yourself in Swindon, this is a great option. For some reason a twin was cheaper than a double. But the room was good, clean and comfy (perhaps a little old fashioned). Basically this is a great place to stop if you are travelling, broken down or on business. Its not going to blow yiu away, but its perfect fir what it is; a stopover. The staff were polite and very helpful, the food was excellent, the room a good size and despite being next to a main road, there was no noise. This suited us because we were travelling to Wiltshire the following day.Our room was a little bit small but adequate and clean. In the evening we went for a meal, but were disappointed by the food and there were only one other group of 3 dining.We returned to our room for the night,but found it too warm even with radiator turned off as the feed pipe was still red hot. Next morning breakfast would have been ok if not having been kept warm for ages and dried up, and we were the only people eating. I dont think they had many guests staying which is perhaps an indication of the hotels reputation. This hotel could be amazing if a little money and time was spent on it. As it stands, I dont think it will survive for much longer, which is a shame. Bed was firm, and the cleanliness of the bathroom was a little poor, especially in the bath/shower area. Bar had run out of bitter and Guinness on the first night, pleasant sitting area though. Dining room was fairly comfortable and staff were pleasant. Evening dinner was good, maybe a little limited on choice if you are staying more than 3 nights. Breakfast was good, plenty of choice. (Self service). Check out was fine, although I was going to be charged twice until a senior receptionist stood in and sorted it out. The outside is in need of complete clean up and inside was worse. Rooms were not cleaned ,dirty bathroom floors, net curtains were literally black, heavily stained carpets in rooms and thorough out whole hotel,beds were completely worn out and like sleeping on a board. Breakfast was outraguosly priced, food area was not clean, run out of eggs and bacon had to keep asking staff for normal breakfast supplies and then charges £12.95 per head for this when questioned that it was outgragoues over priced they said if you book at check in it is idscounted to £6.50 per head and pointed out that perhaps they should train their staff to tell you that at check in. Breakfast was awfull and the dinning room was full of uncleared tables and staff chatting!. After ordering a chicken sandwich and fagots and mash from the lunch menu, were told they had no chicken or fagots. On choosing a jacket potato instead found it was stone cold, returned it to be brought another cold one. What has happened to basic food practice of using a food thermometer to make sure not only that food is cooked but safe to eat? Not happy at all I asked this of the guy at the bar, only to be told that they don't even have a microwave in the kitchen!! This hotel needs a trouble shooter, it has the potential to be good but fails on so many aspects.
