Suwon

Whether you come for a short break or stay for a month, Suwon is one of those destinations that will remain in your memory long after you return home.

This destination is situated about 20 miles south of the national capital of Seoul. It's also approximately 18 miles southwest of Gwangju.

Get active with the kids at Everland and Caribbean Bay. The Gyeonggi Children Museum and Yongin Agricultural Theme Park are also great places to visit if you're looking for more family fun.

Appreciate the wide range of plants and flowers on display when you and your friends go to the Ansan Botanical Garden and the Seongnam Botanical Garden. Many tourists also enjoy wandering around the Hantaek Botanical Garden and the Rose Garden of Seoul Grand Park.

Bring along some lunch and enjoy some time to yourself in the quiet, green surroundings of Mulhyanggi Arboretum and Hyowon Park. Gwanak Arboretum and Gwanggyo Lake Park are two more pleasant spots to while away a lazy day and finally read that neglected book of yours.

Lock your phone in the car and have a rest from the modern world at Ansan Reed Marsh Park and Yongin Recreational Forest. Nature lovers will also have a wonderful time at Gwanggyosan Mountain and Surisan Provincial Park.

Broaden your perspectives by spending some time at one of the area's well-curated exhibition spaces. Savor the contemplative atmosphere as you admire the displays at the Samsung Transportation Museum and the Korean Deung-Jan Museum. The Mr. Toilet House and the Korea Railroad Museum are also worth considering.

Consider spending an afternoon at the Gwacheon National Science Museum to expand your knowledge on scientific innovations and the natural environment.

All those interested in the formation of the natural world should spend some time learning about the specimens and objects at the Biblical Archaeology Museum.

Suwon is a frenzy of artistic activity, with gallery spaces seemingly tucked around every corner. Pop in to the National Museum of Contemporary Art and the Hankuk Art Museum for the best of what this creative city has to offer. If you have time afterwards, the Amorepacific Museum of Art and the Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art are also well worth your time.

History enthusiasts always enjoy passing some time at the Suwon Hwaseong Museum, where they can learn about the future by examining the past. If that's got you going, you should also take in the enthralling items on display at the Suwon Hwaseong Museum and the Gyeonggi Provincial Museum.

Take a step back in time with a trip to Korean Folk Village or the Hwaseomun Gate, just two of the historical sites here. When it comes to bygone times, there's always something else to know. The Paldalmun Gate and the Hwahongmun Gate are two more insightful places to stop by.

Gain a deeper understanding of Suwon's military past by exploring Hwaseong Fortress or Doksanseong Fortress.

Discover the lifestyles of some of the area's most influential people when you visit the marvelous grounds of Hwaseong Haenggung Palace.

Experience the region's spiritual side and enjoy the serene atmosphere at the Yongjusa Temple and the Soo-Ri-Sa Temple. The Cheonggyesa Temple and the Wawoojeongsa Temple are also interesting holy places.

Before you pack your suitcase and make your way home, be sure to stop by some of the area's lesser-known attractions. The Seongnam Arts Center and the Nam June Paik Art Center are two recommended options. Also, contemplate visiting the Gyeonggi Arts Center and Baran Spa if you've got the time.
