Stuttgart

A historic church with a red-tiled roof and Gothic architecture.
A group of ducks resting on a sandy shore by a calm river, surrounded by lush greenery.
A cityscape with modern high-rise buildings, including a hotel named "SI-Centrum" and another building with "DOROTERIO" signage.
A rural landscape with fields, a dirt road, and a few buildings in the distance.
A tall blue building with multiple balconies, surrounded by trees and a field of crops.

This district has a bit of theatrical air about it, with its giant entertainment centre holding two musical theatres, a movie house and a casino.

As one of the largest districts enclosing Stuttgart, Möhringen has a wide range of activities and events. Historical buildings, busy parishes and theatres are among the highlights in this cultural hub. Stroll along the narrow streets in the historic centre of the old village, which has been a part of Stuttgart since 1942.

On the eastern side of the area stands the SI-Centrum, a large complex of theatres, restaurants and cafés. Attend your favourite musical in the two-stage Apollo Theatre, which has a capacity of 1,800. Go to a show at the adjacent Palladium Theatre and admire the old-fashioned carousel at the core of its magnificent glassy foyer.

Try your luck at the complex’s Casino Stuttgart and play the slot machines in the winter garden. You can also watch a film in the CinemaxX Filmpalast and stay overnight at one of the two hotels in the entertainment centre.

Much of Stuttgart was destroyed in World War II, but Möhringen’s Spitalhof building is a rare example of surviving medieval architecture. Admire the quaint half-timbered structure then enter to browse the Heimatmuseum, which presents exhibits on local history. Pass beneath the arched gate that led to a hospital courtyard.

Go for a leisurely walk in the Sonnenberg zone that was once covered in vineyards. Here, you’ll find a large botanical garden flanked by a plant nursery and a florist. Encounter the sophisticated side of Möhringen at the enormous Zublin-Haus, which presents a range of cultural events, such as ballet and classical recitals.

The Möhringen area lies between Vaihingen and Plieningen in the outer district of Stuttgart. Ride the U-Bahn from Stuttgart Central Station through the Stuttgart-Süd zone and arrive at Möhringen Bf station. You can also drive south for 5 miles (9 kilometres) from central Stuttgart to make it here in 15 minutes.

Come to Möhringen for, choose from varied entertainment and historical buildings.
